I've gone back and forth with getting one and i've finally decided to pull the trigger but should i wait until the new ones are released in Oct?

Ideally i'd like to be able to 'plug it in' and start using it with minimal configuring. I'm looking to continue a similar workflow to Maschine with Live (looking at touchable for a push like workflow) once i import the tracks. I'm curious about which are the best control apps for live, i just ran across conductr which looks pretty slick but i'm well out of touch with all the app development.

I'd like to control Live's max devices, 3rd part vsts (understand i need to wrap them for them to be detected?) navigate the interface, launch clips but also use it via OSC to control Reaktor ensembles (standalone as well) and as a scratchpad away from the DAW but i assume to get anything out of the ipad with the iApps i'd either need a dock or upload to cloud storage?

Thanks!

Looking to order one today so giving this a Sunday bump. :)

Touchable 2 seems to be more production based and Lemur and Conductr for performance, i came across Mira for M4L but it's 49€! I'd really like to control those max devices, do the device guis show up on touchable 2 or is there a better app for it?

Cheers!

I like lemur more then the others, the livecontrol2 templare is quite good. There are others Push emulations, and Pull too.

But with lemur you can desing templares that suit your specific needs, and while it takes time you learn to be proficient with it.

Thanks rod_zero! So if i bought Lemur would i also have to buy Pull for all the device control and are all the premium lemur content templates free once you buy it? Pull looks really good anyway, i didn't realize it was a seperate app so if i bought that and Lemur would i be pretty well covered?

Cheers!

lemur premium template Livecontrol 2 is enough to begin with. Pull is not that necessary.

You have to explore all features of the template, some are not that obvious, look for reviews on YouTube.

I found a comparison here: http://sonicbloom.net/en/touchable-2-vs ... omparison/

I was looking at Touchable for the midi editing and library browsing, seems Lemur doesn't have that so i'll have to look a bit more deeply at all the features. Maybe Touchable 2 for Live and Lemur for the rest. :)

Cheers!

Both are good, but you must get lemut at some point since it offers functionality far beyyond, and designing your own temaplates for daw's or plug ins is great.

Yeah i think i'll use Lemur for Reaktor stuff, i have the twisted tools bundle and have wanted an interface to control them with for a while, i have a Quneo which aint bad but hard to control precisely. Anyway ordered one and it's fair to say i'm a little excited! :hyper:

Thanks for the clarification clear rod_zero. :)

I have a bluetooth adapter so can i do everything i can do with wifi via bluetooth as there's no adapter on my desktop. It's either that or a camera connection kit afaict. This is just to use it as a controller and any tutorial would be welcome!

I'd forgotten about the iconnect midi but this is just to get up and running in the meantime.

Cheers!

well, from my experience ipad Live control apps doesn't come close to real hardware such as Push, Base, Launchpad or MPC. While iPad screen is great for xy motion control or single parameter control with slider, however it is quite far from usable for pad trigger performance. Rather slippery ipad screen lacks precision in comparison to super responsive Push pads, for example, which can also send pressure (not poly unfortunately, but Ableton doesn't supports polypressure anyway). Regarding Live device control I find it easier and much faster to edit device settings directly on computer with mouse. If I need live control I can always use macros and mapping.

Yeah i need to spend time with them before going all in. I'm not buying any extra hardware until i'm sure the ipad does what i want. There's other stuff i wanted it for, mainly a scratchpad to record ideas. Also some apps like Thesys, rebirth, mopho editor etc. Control resolution seems quite good anyway from the little i've used it with my laptop.

I think the desktop is a non starter, only seems to work with core midi over bluetooth and rtpmidi won't install for some reason. So much for the plug and play!

Oh yeah from what i've been reading bluetooth is as fast as a wired conection so that would be preferable to wifi while remaining wireless if it's even possible with a PC. OS8 is gonna have bluetooth midi integrated for good low latency midi but again not sure if tha's just between OS devices.

I can see the issue with the screen once it becomes covered in grubby fingerprints! :hihi:

Still very nice to have a surface that gives you realtime visual feedback. I've been watching some videos and found dome amazing apps like triqtraq and Samplr. Lemur is impresssive too, i'll probably whatever i get for performance and manipulating stuff a la Konkreet but the development on the app front for the ipad is pretty amazing aside from the controller stuff. 8)

So many good apps for making music. Personal favorites for me are:

Beatmaker 2 (Drum sampler and keys + sequencer, fx, works great with controllers)
TB Midistuff (create your own controllers, includes templates and lots of cool graphics for knobs, sliders, etc)
Thor (Reason's acclaimed synth)
iMPC Pro (not quite an MPC, but general feel of MPC. Works perfect with MPC Element)
Z3TA+ (yes, now on iPad)
Korg iMS20 and iPolySix (great sound and built in step sequencers in old school style)
Meteor (multitrack with fx, very easy multitracking and good options for the price)

This is just a small list of the many I have purchased which are absolute bargains for the price. iPad is very modular with apps with various means of routing midi and audio inter-app via built in InterApp Audio or Audiobus app.

iPad Air should handle everything well. I'm still using iPad 2.

Additive
Subtractive
FM
Sampling
Wavetable
Multitracking
Custom Controllers
Sequencers
FX routing
Guitar Amps and FX

There is so much you can do with one. Get one, but realize it has some limitations compared to PC, and some things I think implemented much better than a PC can do.
A lot to be said for touch-enabled apps.

The Camera Connection Kit is a must. I use various controllers with mine - Korg PadKONTROL, M-Audio Venom (as full sound card, midi in/out control), MPC Element

Get a powered USB hub to use some controllers with. iPad puts out low level power over CCK

Wireless control of PC Programs is supported by some PC Programs. Also, bluetooth midi is fine although BT audio for music apps shows obvious latency. BT audio playback only doesn't show latency nor midi, so makes a great midi controller via BT.

I'm using mine with my iLoud BT speaker (wired, not bluetooth). Makes for a cool mini studio.

I would have posted this in mobile hardware but doesn't appear in the subforum list, don't know if a mod can move it?

Anyway i already got the iPad but thanks for the suggestions Wormhelmet! Yeah Beatmaker gets mentioned everywhere, i'm shortlisting a bunch apps cause i don't wanna go down an app induced GAS blackhole!

Just so i'm clear to use rtpmidi or any wireless connection i don't need wifi on my PC do i? I got the bluetooth connection working but afaict relatively few apps use the bluetooth protocol and bluetooth LE only works with apple stuff. :(

I was thinking about buying the connection kit cause of latency etc but i'd need a midi interface to connect to my mopho so was thinking about the iconnect MIDI2 for hardware and a USB dongle for wireless use with my desktop.

Cheers!

I don't use the wireless features if any app myself either, but most likely it just requires the PC to be on the same network. I've never set it up before, so just a guess on that.

I have transferred plenty of samples into Beatmaker 2 via FTP from my PC on the same network as my iPad. That one is very easy.
