rtp midi is off the hook! Was playing Stylo from the pads on Quneo via the live routing and sequencing a plugin with little midi, no extra hardware needed.
Cheers for the help guys.

Glad to see you got it working. As you own it longer and get a chance to check out some iOS music apps, I think you'll be more than a little impressed with sound quality and interface for things like synths, drum samplers, filters and fx, and everything else cool for very reasonable prices.
I like that it is so compact to carry around many good tools and sound creation apps. Having just bought a hardware sampler/sequencer, I really look forward to sampling the sounds into my sampler and mixing it up after that. I love synth programming anyway and I can be anywhere creating new sounds to use.

Cheers! Yeah been checking out a few. Well impressed with the quality. I'd read ipad were usable in professional recordings but maybe not via the headphone out.
I like the stuff that's designed to take advantage of the screen like Stylo, not sure i'd like to try arranging a full track on one but the immediacy is great. Just checking out the Holderness fx and the quality is really good, way beyond what i expected. Have you seen the Apollo remote recorder? Can stream audio straight into your DAW!
Aside from that what's the best way to get audio out of the ipad then? Dropbox or do you load/revcord it into an editor first to set up formats etc? Trying to work out a setup for rendering or bouncing stuff on the fly away from the DAW that i can load up into Live.

Via USB Camera Connection Kit and some audio interface. I use my Venom synth with built in M-Audio interface, then line out to ins on my Focusrite interface hooked to PC or into my sampler via line outs from Venom.
There are a few that are Mac compatible that work

I was thinking internally from seperate apps but the answer was Audiobus! I didn't realize you could stack apps so i just need to identify something to record into where i can edit the audio, Loopy HD seems like a good option. Had a bit of a play with GB and it's actually not bad. All i need do is get a connection kit to hook up the Quneo for a bit of expression, audiobus, effects processors editor, bosh!

Routing options depend on the app but headphone out is not all that bad (routed through an AI).
Obviously Cubasis-Cubase, FL Mobile-FL Studio and above mentioned Korg Gadget are truely integrated in their PC 'counterpart' but like you mentioned yourself there are plenty other routings.
For your needs also consider Nanostudio: It's cheap, it's a full DAW, you can route every Audiobus compatible app into it plus it has a PC version (with an extra piece of software called 'Nanosync' with which you can easily transfer files and even whole projects without the need for an CCK (wifi though!)
As for 'real studio' use, the Gorillaz for eg. produced a whole album on the iPad (I think they used Auria) so the sky's the limit!

I wouldn't say Gadget is "truly integrated" with Live. It only exports to Live but can't go in the other direction, and it only exports audio stems, no MIDI.

Gaget looks really good but i'm not buying any full blown apps yet, I want to get the hardware sorted out first anyway.BiancaNeve wrote:Gadget has built in export to live

Last night i tried running it through the audio in of my mopho and it sounded good, couldn't hear or see any noisefloor in Live even with all that extra gain.Spiritos wrote:Routing options depend on the app but headphone out is not all that bad (routed through an AI).

Nanostudio looks good too, course there's the windows version so i may as well check that out. What i was thinking of was exporting basic sketches to load in Live and convert via audio to midi not doing full arrangements yet but i can simply record via the mopho for now. So many choices though, FL, Caustic etc all look really good but i don't want to buy loads of apps just want a well rounded set up.
Yeah i read about the Gorillaz...it is inspiring to be able to go anywhere and write music. It's kinda cold this time of year but would love to go out into the woods (maybe not ) or countryside and see what came out; I'll have to order the connection kit this weekend...

Yeah midi export is something i was wondering about. Still not sure about making music entirely with a touchscreen, feels weird playing keys and it's hard to be precise when moving notes around the piano roll in GB.Aural Chaos wrote:I wouldn't say Gadget is "truly integrated" with Live. Gadget is arguably the best MIDI piano roll experience on iOS, which makes it that much more of a shame that you can't export MIDI or send it to other apps or devices.
Yeah, if you ever play actual keys, playing them on a glass screen can feel weird and unsatisfying.

Cool i'll check it out. I really wish there were demos or light versions i could try; some look really slick but what are they like to use in practise? I bought Magellan and audio bus just to get a taste for things, tried recording a synth into GB but found it quite awkward, kept missing the record button and the timing was off, old school takes or what?!
Really needs a count in unless that only works in the recording app, then again GB has very limited editing options... i don't know whether to go for a sampler type app or a DAW but from looking around it's about as involved as mac and windows!
TouchOSC otoh is great, finally got control of Reaktor!

That is correct, the PC only needs to be connected to your router, no wireless adapter is needed. That said, a wired connection has proved essential for low latency sequencing with my ipad2, lemur can trip up a bit when using the sequencers if not. I can give two thumbs up for the iconnectmidi4+ interface which makes sending both audio and midi to a Pc or a Mac possible. Lemur is a no brainer too - creating custom controllers and sequencers is amazing stuff, really no other controller provides this much flexibility and usability and at the price is a steal. You won't be dissapointed with the combo.
