it looks like i might be receiving a hand-me-down samsung s2. though i know android has latency issues, i was pretty sure there would be a way of using some kind of external mic to improve the quality of field recordings

seems i might be wrong :(

does anyone have any experience trying this ??

cheers :tu:

I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

already done that search. it turns out that the greatest possibility - audio evolution- will not work with the s1, s2 or note

i am specifically looking for people who have had experience with this, rather than with google searches

Maybe take a look at iK Multimedias microphones for Android?

Have used a iRig microphone (60 $) and it improves the sound a bit.
Used it mostly with a Samsung Galaxy S3 but it should work for the S2 as well.
It is not a crazy difference (depending to on the built in microphone of the device) but there is a difference.
And if you do get one of their microphones maybe avoid the application iRig Recorder as it contains pop up adds even for the paid version.

thanks !! i did spend some time on their page yesterday, but came away with so many 'almost ran' options.

you have kind of confirmed my feelings about the quality of the irig mic, and i'm not about to drop money on "improves the sound a bit" :) . i am still considering the irig 'pre', as i own a studio electronics 'se1a'. the thing that is irritating is that there seems to be no way of monitoring straight from the mic (i already own one bit of latency-inducing ik gear, so.....).

i could be kind of chasing my tail trying to get quality sound into this older phone. before i was offered the phone, i had been looking into field-recording with my ipad. it would be a bit bulkier, but there are a lot more options, and the possibility of using the same interface if i ever get an iphone.

anyway, the whole 'found' sound thing is something that i have only just started thinking about. maybe the best idea is to go with the 'pre' before spending a ton of money chasing something i might not really enjoy

thanks again :tu:
