I was just notified about this

Price is still stupid (£29), but it means you can have external power with USB powered audio interfaces so it's a big plus.
Just ordered mine, will test it with my M-Audio Fast Track and see how it goes.

This caught my interest as well, if it really works with common USB audio interfaces that would be pretty awesome! Please let us know if/how it works for you

Dang, first thing I thought 15 days ago when announced was a big topic here at KVR.
Either way, I've seen a couple videos, seems to work as intended, with no longer needing the trusty "Gray Belkin" adapter as recommended here in the forums years ago.
Also not important for the discussion but it can help in connecting two iOS devices and have one act as a camera (for copying photos and videos I mean) and the other as the receiver. Interesting kind of hack.
I wanna order the thingy but as an international customer Apple is a no-go and B&H hasn't it available yet.

I don't really bother with Apple stuff until there's UK stock. I just set up a notification and then decide how much I want it, when I can actually buy it. You get real world use examples then too, from all the places it's in stock way before our little old isle.
Anyway, since prices vary from a bargain £27.96 at Kikatek (Special Order) to the Apple Bend Over, I bent over.

Just got it and first impressions are underwhelming. Apple have missed a trick because the lightning port only powers the iPad, so you still need a powered hub for the Audio Interface.
I can understand why you would do it this way, but I thought Apple were supposed to be clever. It wouldn't have taken long to design a suitable isolation/protection circuit, and the power requirements seem OK if shared.
With it all connected up, my M-Audio Fast Track worked as normal, in both Cubasis and Garageband.
So it is better, as battery is no longer an issue, but it's still more hassle then it needed to be.
I guess it's another example of Apple no longer thinking through products and upgrades (Mac Mini anyone). I guess this is slightly better than when they thought too much (the Newton) but I'll miss that golden period of spot on (at least for me) product releases.
At least I didn't pay too much for it, oh wait!
Last time I do that.

I agree, that sounds really somewhat disappointing... After all, I mostly produce music on my iPad when I'm not at home or when I sometimes don't want to fire up Logic for just a few recordings. If I now had to use the power supply of the tablet plus an extra usb hub that would make things almost as cluttered as on my studio desktop... Guess I will post-pone the new adapter for now.
Many thanks for sharing your experiences, much appreciated!

Had to have this adapter myself as I use my Ipad as a central feature in my setup (Primarily TouchAble for Ableton). I had to pay the ridiculous sum of $59 Australian dollars. Apple really know how to bleed their customers. The fact that it's touted as a USB3 connector when this feature is only available on the Ipad Pro just rubs salt into that gaping wound. F**k you Apple you thieving whores
It does work flawlessly though

Just make the music that you enjoy (failing that go for a walk, watch some porn, have a fight with a random bloke until something else happens).

Sorry to bump but I have actual new info.
So I got my Mackie XD-2 (Spike) out of mothballs and tried it. It works for audio and MIDI! The SHARC bit doesn't, but that always fairly useless. I shouldn't be surprised as it's class compliant but with it's external PSU, nice preamps and monitor mix knob (direct/USB), it's kind of ideal to use with Cubasis.
I had got it out to trade-in for an Audient ID14 but comparing them, the Audient only really has better audio quality as an advantage. The loss of MIDI and Direct Monitoring (not supported on iOS) isn't really worth it, so old hardware wins.
The CCK still cost too much though.

I just bought the adapter.khanyz wrote:Apple have missed a trick because the lightning port only powers the iPad, so you still need a powered hub for the Audio Interface.
For no reason connected my Samsung Android phone to the adapter while connected to the iPad ( powered thru the PSU ), noticed my Samsung did get power ( it started charging )
Will check what my Audio Interface ( Presonus AudioBox iOne ) does.
Cheers.

There is power as flash cards and drives require it, it's just limited so can't power devices with higher demand. My guess is that phantom power is a decisive factor as audio interfaces without it (such as converter cables and simple jack interfaces) may work without external power.
