Just wondering if this solution exists.

I was pleased to figure out I can use my big Yamaha digital piano as a midi controller.
Problem is, it is set up in another corner of the room and not in front of my PC. I can run a long usb cord from the Yamaha to the PC, but I don't have the visual luxury of having the PC monitor in front of my face.

Is there a remote solution to where I can control Mixcraft 7 through my android phone?
I would use it for simple things like arming a track. Hitting record/ stop...that sort of thing.

I know they have remote desktop apps and stuff, but can they work with open programs like a daw for example?

TouchOSC for Android could be your friend here. It's completely configurable to the way you need to use it in terms of layout and Midi control parameters.

I use it here on my old Samsung Galaxy phone primarily as a visual feedback device for my Electribe Sampler.
I created a layout that gives me a 2x8 fader matrix that lets me see at a glance all 16 track gain levels or flip to the next page to see all 16 track filter settings. I can adjust these settings on the phone itself via it's touchscreen but it's a little fiddly given the size of the faders so I primarily use the 16 pots on my little Arturia Minilab for more precise control whilst as I said the phone gives me visual feedback.

Sat next to the Galaxy is my iPhone 5S which uses TouchAble to control Ableton. The two together make for an excellent pair of tiny monitor/controllers for specific operations within my setup

Hope this helps
Just make the music that you enjoy (failing that go for a walk, watch some porn, have a fight with a random bloke until something else happens).

Have a look at Splashtop. Basically it mirrors your PC screen on your android device, and provides a keyboard/trackpad to control it all over either wifi or even across the net.

Edit
It works well on a tablet, but I've never tried it on a phone.

For Android search Google Play for TouchDAW by Humanic. It emulates a Mackie Control One control surface and implements other useful MIDI tools that can be used wirelessly or wired via USB. There's a very useful free version you can try out. The full app is only $5. I've used it with SONAR and highly recommend it. It is designed to work on a phone or tablet and has a useful screen config for both types of devices. Here's the web site for the manual and support (very responsive author).

Splashtop is the winner!

Yeah I was intending to use my tablet all along, so this is great. Only problem is I can't zoom into Mixcraft's viewing plane so it is pretty tiny on my tablet and I have to be real careful where I "click".

Still, though...this is perfect. Problem solved. Thanks for the tip.
