I'm asking for a friend of mine. I'm very familiar with Win and iOS but Android and it's latest developments is completely off my radar. I've searched some new info on Android but I find my current knowledge is very fragmented and I can't get a firm grasp on it.

Initially my friend only had a Samsung Galaxy S7 and a Win laptop. As such I recommended the IK Multimedia iRig Pro Duo (http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/irigproduo/) but yesterday he informed me an iPad Air2 is soon to be added to the equation so I wanted to double-check my advice and reconsider my understanding.

Another thing to consider is he requires a mobile solution so I'm thinking the Pro Duo is still very viable but I want to double check if it's still necessary to consider Android as an exotic element today or that basically all interfaces are possible with connectors and/or rooting (if still necessary at all).

Just needs to be Class compliant, has always been that way, nothing has changed.
If he wants one interface that both his windows maschine and iPad can connet to at the same time and share audio there is only one, Iconnectaudio4

Tnx but I'm quite in the dark with Android OS and as far as my understanding goes CC for iOS is different than for Android not? For eg. some (Audio Interface) manufacturers still advertise with "Android compatibility", why?

As far as I recall Android didn't support USB 2.0 and the device needed to be "rooted" aka "jailbroken". Then Android SDK did develop USB 2.0 support but there were flaws and/or not all device OSes were natively implemented and as such certain Audio Interfaces /device combo's were prefered.

So is my initial question wrong and are ALL AI's with CC multi-platform and CC for iOS is same for Android?

Class compliant is class compliant, that is what it means

To my knowledge Android devices act only as a USB device (typically recognised as a "mass storage" device) and not as a USB host. So that kinda rules out connecting a USB audio device to it, class-compliant or not.

The IK Multimedia devices that work for Android do so through the standard 1/8" headphone/mic jack, not over USB.

I have a dac that connects over USB to an android phone. No drivers required, so you may be wrong. No idea about audio inputs for Android though
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Thanks Eric, I learnt something new today: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_On-Th ... vice_roles

Well that was (or still is?) the thing with Android that's off and confuses me. I remember reading some threads about drivers not being provided for devices so the implementation of Class Compliant in practice remained missing (found old link: http://www.extreamsd.com/USBAudioRecord ... d5USB.html)

Looking at the new iRig HD-A (http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/irighda/) it is jammed with references about Android compatiblity (and a visual of OTG USB connections).

Anyway, I appreciate the feedback but this discussion has become solely theoretical for me by now since my friend opted for the iRig Pro Duo (which is fine either way if only for the mobile solution). I guess I just have a hard time getting my head around Android but truth be told, it's something I try to steer away from as well ;) Tnx.
