Bought Lemur for Android yesterday, and got it working fine with my MacBook Pro. However, the main purpose is for use with Windows 10 Pro, and here I'm striking out. My PC is ethernet connected via a network switch and a long cable to the main router of the house, the tablet is connect to a wifi router that is plugged to the same network switch.

I've installed the app and got Lemur Daemon running, but neither Daemon nor the App can see each other, so its failing at the first hurdle. Firewall is allowing the Daemon app to pass. Googling for help hasn't really come up with anything - there's a lot of talk of the ad hoc method of connection, but that's gone in Windows 10 and workarounds look staggeringly complicated.

Is there anything obvious I'm missing? Happy to connect the tablet via USB if that solves a problem, but not sure what the procedure is there. Thanking in advance for any help, especially since Lemur seems to be abandonware at this point.

Sorry I can’t help as I’ve never used the lemur app with windows although I was planning to in the near future so it will be good to know if it’s a big pain not doesn’t work.

Just curious though, have you tried any others? My iPad is broken so I can’t check what else I had and never got to try but a quick search reveals some like touchosc, which I think was popular and also uses midi. Also knob lab. Or midi designer pro looks good and actually already has tons of layouts made for various hardware synths. And since I know you’re hoping to use this with Omnisphere those could be a good starting point if it works the way we hope! Check it out in the apps store.

The one thing you didn't mention was installing an app for Virtual MIDI ports. See this link: https://liine.net/wiki/lemur/connection/midi/win I use loopMIDI.

Also, I'm not really sure if it will work through ethernet. I've assumed you either must have both devices on Wi-Fi, or use USB to connect them. I am using an iPad. I have successfully used it over a Wi-Fi router and also by making my phone a hotspot. So I have only done this when both are using Wi-Fi.

Thanks Echoes and iPlogger. Lemur is my first port of call I guess because it's reckoned to be the most comprehensive and these profiles are quite involved. (Doubly hoping I can figure out a way of it working now as I've done quite a bit of work already on getting these profiles started and actually beginning to understand the software...)

iPlogger - I have LoopBe1 already, but also tried loopMIDI, to no avail. Windows simply not seeing anything anywhere.

Perhaps it has to be a direct wifi connection from the computer to tablet (ie not via a network switch). That's something I can try at the weekend, as I do have an emergency USB wifi dongle - cheers.

a few years ago I had Lemur 4.12 working with my Windows 10 PC and the Air iPad.
The PC does not have WiFi.
Yes had issues but got it working.

Perhaps I had it working using iConnectmidi2+?
Sorry, it has been a while.

Ah ha! Progress. I think iPlogger was on the right lines. Though my studio router and PC are connected via a network switch, the PC cannot "see" the router. When I put the tablet up in the house and connected it to the main wifi, Lemur Daemon picked it up instantly.

As for a solution, I've had pretty ropy experiences with wireless repeaters down here, but I'm giving the one with the best Amazon reviews a try, and hoping for the best - arriving tomorrow. Thanks all.

Now working! The repeater didn't work in the studio at all, but so far is working ok at the nearest corner of the house and the Fire tablet can pick it up on 2 bars, so here's hoping it remains solid (if not, might have to go for the madness of a 2nd repeater. So the moral of the tale - router connected to PC but not the main router = does not work.

Was relatively trivial once that was established. I have 2 ports in loopMIDI - I receive on the tablet on Port A via Midi 0 and transmit on Port B via Midi 1.

Dammit, now a new problem. The Lemur Editor doesn't show up in any monitor (I have 4). There appears to be a known issue with multi-monitor setups, but only a (possible) solution for macs. I can see the window when hovering over the tray icon, but no way of actually switching to it.

Glad you were able to get things working. Cool that you are moving forward on the hardware synth templates. Yeah, kind of a bummer when there are issues with Lemur since there doesn't really seem to be any new work on it.

Thanks iPlogger. Not the end of the world as I can just tinker on the laptop in downtime, then just save that onto the tablet which works fine under Windows now. The bore is you then need to make a glitch list of anything you didn't catch first time around, go back to the laptop etc. Also a pain for any other multi-monitor Windows user who would like to tweak a template, and doesn't have access to another machine.

Any idea what happened to Liine? They still sell the app of course, but do seem to be otherwise dead.

The iOS version is nice, in that it has a built-in editor. The interface and workflow can use some updating, but it's quite usable in its current state.

I don't know what's happened to Liine. They had one of the most recommended MIDI controller touch apps. I actually spent more time with TB MIDI Stuff, though. By the time I purchased Lemur, development had been slowed down. At least I have the Ableton Live Template which is pretty snazzy and Rheyne's Live Template which was helpful in seeing how he programmed things.

Oh, I didn't know that about iOS having a built in editor. Shame there's no way to get both versions when you buy one. My iPad is a mini - great for reading books, less so for midi controllers.

I fear this whole thing for me is going to end in failure. I now have 2 repeaters giving strong signals but the connection still keeps randomly dropping on Windows. It's always solid on the mac.

I've read other reports of connections being erratic - is this pretty much the norm on Windows?
