Hi - trying to get Shreddage / Bass to work using LinuxSampler with Ableton Live - I can load the sfz preset into the sampler and I can see the midi triggering the keys in the sampler but I don't get any sound outputting!

Many thanks (in advance) for anyone that can offer help!

Did you hit the low keyswitch? With the SFZ spec, there's no default keyswitch, so you have to manually hit it (annoying, I know!) You can do this by looking at the LS interface and check for the colored KS keys at the low end of the keyboard, then hit the corresponding note on your MIDI keyboard or piano roll.

zircon, thanks from the prompt reply. Great support!

All the LinuxSampler (fantasia) keys are the default grey colour - do you mean that some should be coloured to show their function?
Could this mean the script has not loaded correctly?

I've tried holding down low octave keys at the same time as playing the higher ones but still nothing! Which note is the keyswitch?

I forgot to add before, this is on Ableton Live 8.3.4 running on Windows XP and an EMU 1820 soundcard.

I'm desperate to get this working as I've managed to get it playing in Kontackt Player demo mode and it sounds so good!

Thanks

Chris

Hey Chris, don't worry, we'll get this sorted out one way or the other :)

So just to clarify, did you go through the one-time process of loading the instruments and resaving the patch, as shown in this video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t67hfeAFoAM

Once you do that, using your host piano roll or MIDI keyboard you will want to hit the key corresponding with "C-1" in LinuxSampler. It appears to be a grey key. You have to do this in your host or with your MIDI controller because you want to affect all the loaded patches, which are all on the same MIDI channel.

Zircon - one step forward(!) - I hadn't checked that video (I checked all the other ones before buying, just not that one! Feel like a bit of a muppet for missing that (I guess I should have WTFV)!

I now start going through the initial config and selecting the .sfz file for the instrument but it fails to load and states "failed to load instrument" where the instrument name originally was.

While going through the steps it shows the following in the drop down menus for the instrument just before I select apply;
Select instrument from file -
Instrument file: .../ShredBassPE Combo Legato.sfz
Instrument index: 0 - ShredBassPE Combo Legato

If it's any use the output from the console is shown below (it reports "unable to create new midi input / audio output device" before I start trying to load the .sfz files).

Thanks for your assistance and your patience while trying to help me.

Chris

Rather than loading the multi, can you try loading just one SFZ file and see what happens?

One other thing - If I try loading the individual .sfz files in any other soundfont player (rca:audio sfz player, camel audio alchemy, etc) the vsts tell me that the files have loaded but I don't get any sound outputting from them either).

(I'm getting the same behaviour on my music PC and my laptop).

just saw your reply after my last post! - have tried just loading an individual .sfz into a fresh linuxsampler session, same problem.

OK, with Shreddage Bass, once you load the individual patch for say Combo, you will just need to hit the note E-1 on your keyboard. You can cross-reference with the LinuxSampler UI to make sure you're hitting the right one. E-1 sets the keyswitch to alternating up/down. It should be highlighted in red on the keyboard.

zircon - I can't get that far, still getting "intstrument failed to load!"

Thanks for the time you're putting in to helping me.

Can you take a screenshot of the folder you're loading the SFZ files from? I think it may be that the SFZ files are in the wrong spot. Files like "ShredBassPE Combo Legato.sfz" should be in the same folder that contains the "Samples" folder.

zircon - success with the bass!!! thank you.

Still getting the issue with Shreddage guitar but now that I know the .sfz files need to sit in adjacent to the "samples" folder I'm sure I can crack this.

I'll let you know when I'm done.

Thank you!

Ok, feeling a bit daft now as I completely missed the pdf showing how to set the library up! Sorry.

I don't have the "XPatches" or "XSamples" folders as these weren't in the rar files I downloaded from my email links.

When I click on the ShreddageX expansion link in the email it just takes me back to the product page on your Impact Soundworks site.

I'm guessing that if I can download the missing sample folder I'll be up and running.

Are you or Doug able to email a link to the files?

Post

Yes. Please go to our site's new contact form and put in your name + transaction ID. We can reactivate and resend the email from there (it's faster that way). The Shreddage X file thing is actually our mistake, we just switched servers so the link(s) got messed up.
