as the title says,i'm stuck with a terrible phasey sound that occasionally occurs during the playback of the song.I dont know how to solve this problem,I've tried the rr reset button on Shreddage II interface (both during playback and with the song stopped) but nothing changes.I don't know if it's randomness but I've noticed this sound especially arises when 2 guitar instances play the same notes.Does anyone else have the same problem?? :?

When you're doubletracking, are you setting one guitar to "DT Guitar 1" and the other to "DT Guitar 2"? That's crucial to making sure both instances don't use the same samples at the same time.

yes Iain,the guitars are set correctly,the 1st instance to Dt guitar 1 and Dt guitar 2,and so the 2nd instance.

Thanks for the reply.

We'll need to wait for zircon to chime in here and perhaps look at your MIDI sequence, in order to get to the bottom of this.

Yeah, can you render an mp3 of the problem (clean, no distortion), then a MIDI? I'll try it on my end. A screenshot will help too. Though FYI I will be away for the holidays as of the 25th-31st or so and w/o daw access! (Will still have email/forum access though)

Here are some things that aren't exclusive to Shreddage, but to midi and phase in general.

Check to see that you don't have midi notes stacked on top of each other. It sometimes happens when I cut and paste midi in pro tools. Highlight one of your notes in the piano roll and delete it. If there's still a note there, bingo!

Also, if any repeating note's adsr release times overlap the new note, and there's no round robin samples, (and sometimes with them, if they're similar enough in tuning), you can get phasing that way too.

One last thing to check is your effects. A delay under 8ms will sometimes cause odd phasing with the original signal, especially if it's near a 50-50 wet/dry ratio.

It sounds like your duplicating instances (quad tracking) and even with round robin in effect, there will always be a chance that the same sample will be triggered between the first and second instance. Do you still get the phasey sound without quad tracking?

thanks to all for trying to help me.
Bigjerome,i didn't use quad tracking,the guitars are double tracked.The first instance (lead) is double tracked hard left and hard right,the second (rhythm),the same.Each one plays oddly the same notes during the song.
Xenobt,there aren't overlapped notes,again,I've tried to do playback without any effect (I've used some reverb on the 1st and the 2nd guitar) but this phasey sound still remains! :x :x :x

for Andrew:here's the link to the song (still in progress).The first is mp3 (listen around 45 sec.,you can clearly hear this phasey sound,and in some other parts of the track...),the second is clean,without effects,eq ecc ecc and the 3rd is a MIDI.Let me know if you need screenshots of Shreddage II configuration.

OK... trying to figure out what's going on here... can you render a DI version with no FX of any kind (no eq, no compression, no amping, no master track stuff) and JUST the rhythm guitar? I'd like to compare with my own version, below. This is what it SHOULD sound like. Nothing but 2 S2 patches, DT Guitar 1 + 2, panned 100% in opposite directions. Do the same thing on your end and let's see if they null out.

OK so comparing your dry vs. my dry versions.... they sound pretty much the same (different RRs, I can tell) but there isn't any phase cancellation from left/right channels being combined. Maybe it's just the amp sim patches you're using that are creating a phasey effect?

hi andrew,i don't think so cause i've tried with other vst amps-i'm using LePou free stuff by now-and it's still the same.This phasey sound then,seems more noticeable when 2 guitar instances play the same notes,in fact if I mute one track it disappears or at least it seems less audible.I've unchecked reverb effects too (every single channel,guitar 1 and 2 dx sx has a reverb plugin) but this annoying sound still persists.I don't know what to do,because it s the first time I have this problem.

guys I've tried with V-Metal,same amps,same effects,same tracks,same notes,no phasey sound at all,so..WTF??? Am i doing something wrong with Shreddage 2?

Hmm... there isn't any actual phase cancellation (as Andrew points out) but I wonder if the timing variations in the double-tracked round robins don't suit what you're trying to achieve.

Out of curiosity, is this a bit closer to the stereo image for which you're aiming?
