Extended FAQ & Rules wrote:General Forum Rules
  1. Topics should be posted in the relevant forum. If you are seeking support for a product whose company has an official forum here at KVR please post in the company's forum.
  2. Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will result in your post being edited / deleted, and you may be issued with a warning and / or a ban.
  3. Posting of any material, or links to any material (images/text/audio/video) deemed by a moderator to be pornographic, inflammatory, inciteful, racist, overtly political, illegal or generally offensive or inappropriate will result in your post being edited / deleted, and you may be issued with a warning and / or a ban.
  4. Members are asked to respect the copyright of other users, sites, media, etc. Users linking to, asking for information about, or blatantly bragging about using, warez, crackz, pirated sample content, re-printing material without permission, etc. will result in your post being edited / deleted, and you may be issued with a warning and / or a ban.
  5. If a thread is locked or deleted this happened for good reason so don't start another thread demanding to know why the first thread was locked/deleted as that too will also be locked/deleted - if you wish to complain about such an incident please contact us privately.
Annoying & childish, yes, but having multiple accounts is not against KvR rules.

It's not listed there but I'm pretty sure Ben has publicly said it was no longer acceptable, likely about the time we could no longer change our account names at will. When misused, they definitely aren't allowed.

If Ben says I'm wrong about this, of course I will retract. I'm going by memory and my memory is notoriously flaky.

I'm pretty sure Ben hasn't been AWOL since late '11, so why is there no rule #6 yet?

Dupe accounts are stupid, but “Well, yeah, I can't find the comment right now but I'm pretty sure he said something roughly like that, once upon a time” is a fuсktarded policy for banning people.

Nah, banning them is a fine thing to do. Multi id sock puppets add nothing. Cut them off at the ankles. :tu:

Well, yeah, but that's not the point.

Not about multiple accounts, but i'm pretty floored atm that it's so easy to come back as a new user, when you got banned here, and escape the clutches of the mods here. I think KVR is in serious lack of mods who read through topics here, and sort things, and users out. Seriously, the person i talk about here, i reported him 10 times now i think with his various aliases, and he keeps coming back again and again, sometimes weeks or months without even being noticed, even though it's so obvious that it screams at you. Come on, this is seriously weak, i really would expect some more professionality from such a large site and forum.

think about what it says about the person, some people make complete jerks of themselves so they completely reinvent themselves and come back under a new name (and often do it again). It use to outrage me and for years I had one such person stalking me under different names and under the first name I knew him as I thought we were friends.

Now I realize the truth is that the problem is not me nor is it my problem, it is imo a problem for KvR and I do think it should not be tolerated. For me it causes extreme trust issues and tbh as a result I would only do business in the marketplace with well established members for this very reason. I think it's quite juvenile and tbh cowardly, in real life you cannot unring the bell so why would you here? It certainly is not one's finest moment when they choose this type of behavior but that's not my problem.

However, blaming the mods is not the answer. There are too many posters and not enough mods. Mods do this as courtesy and really have no obligation, they also have lives and to spend hours weeding through thousands of users comparing ip addresses is an unreasonable expectation.

So what can be done? First try to look at it from the angle that it may be an annoyance for you but it is the sockpuppet who really has the issue. Second report it to a mod, perhaps the report button is not the best way so try sending them a PM (though I am assuming you have already tried this). Finally, ignore them, it's likely their attention span is that of their maturity level and eventually they will move on.

Sadly it is true this does bring down KvR but KvR is not alone, many sites are hurt by this behavior. It would be nice if there were a device that would go through membership lists and flag sockpuppets but as it does not appear to be a priority the best thing to do is to just ride it out...this too will pass :)

How is having more than one account so bad anyways? People have many emails for their job, entertainment and games. I see nothing wrong with it.

the difference is when you do not know that you are talking to the same person, then it can become deceitful and possibly appear as if someone is trying to make a fool of you. There have been examples of members who work for companies and have a personal account and a business account, they make it clear that they are one and the same person. The problem arises when one uses multiple accounts to troll other members, one can attack someone without taking responsible for such attack in this manner and that to me is quite out of line. Take my example of the market place, what if someone was known for not being quick with shipping an item or transferring a license so they changed their name because they had a bad rep, I suspect you would want to know the truth before doing business with the person.

I try to behave online like I do in real life. In real life I can say here is my business email, here is my personal email or I can give someone my cell phone and my work phone but I cannot be someone else entirely. Doing so online imho (you may feel different, this is just how I feel) is quite disrespectful and I surely would not do it to someone else. Honor and being trustworthy are qualities that matter a lot to me. I will have far more respect for the person who admits their err than the one who denies it by denying who they are just to avoid admitting their err.
