Well, they won't be shitty or mediocre for sure and for a sample/sound library with around 3 GB including original multisamples of real instruments I don't think the price is very steep. You can spend much more for much less these days.
lol, I don't think he meant it the way it seems. I read it in terms of a complement.
I think it could also that I mentioned in a post directly previous to his(filtafreq) that I'm buying Halion 5 because Simon is making sounds for it.

I'd like to add that following Simon's lead is not such a bad way to find out whats interesting and useful in the synth/sampler/effects world, IMO he has very good taste and a deep insight in sound technology, so as in this case here Halion 5 comes in as highly recommended..

Seems to me that most VST instruments these days are very fairly priced for what you get. The soundware on offer here as well..
waves break, but somehow it all makes sense.

And something rather evil: a new patch from Sonic Cinema named "Ridley's Readymades":

The brass instruments for Sonic Cinema will be recorded on the weekend of Decembre 7/8, susaphone, 2 types of trombones and a euphonium. Also I bought an ebow today for making ebow-sounds with various string instruments, which should make for some great granular pad sounds and more. This library will be and already is quite a rich and cinematic one.

And a demo for the patch "Larger than Life Pad":

So after extensively sampling these chimes yesterday here comes a track combining three HALion 5-patches all made with /derived from chime samples:

So after a long sampling session today, ebowing my acoustic western guitar, here comes a first demo with the patch "Ebow Estring Split" keyswitching between normal sampling and granular mode while improvising and tweaking the Quick Controls. I didn't expect the ebowing to be so amazing really, the whole acoustic guitar starts to vibrate and the harmonics really sing and sizzle - great samples! I sampled all open strings and some chromatics, so there will be also multisampled patches and more harmonic transitions and whatnot.

EDIT:
I added a second ebow patch now to the demo and updated it.

So, today was sousaphone day, a three hour sampling session for sampling this incredible brass instrument, performed by Jason Liebert until his lips fell off. He will also play the trombone(s) and euphonium in the next sampling session on Sunday.

Another 4 hour session today recording two types of trombone, one with a F-attachment to extend the range down to C1 so I have the low end covered. Lots of mulitsamples and different articulations with various velocity layers and round robins/alternations, also using 3 different types of mutes like Wahwah, plunger and the one in the pic which has a very mellow sound, almost muted-horn-like.

Then we also did some mutlisampled trills on the euphonium and some scales, phrases and some crazy sounds too. Now I have to cut and edit this huge collection of splendid recordings and transform them into single samples. Can't wait to start programming HALion patches with those.

This is looking really exciting, I'm on board (at a very fair price I might add). It will also help me get acclimated to Halion 5, an amazing instrument but with a really boring factory sound set that doesn't seem to take advantage of what's under the hood.
Cheers Simon and best wishes for the holidays!

Thank you Ben, I never installed the HALion library so I can't comment on the quality of the factory patches :)
The instrument itself is pretty fantastic.
