The sound still plays back but the gui is very jerky and keeps freezing up for short periods making the whole experience unusable really. Its the main reason I no longer use it.
Maybe stupid, but have you made the log.txt file "read-only" already?
Yes - makes no difference

Anyone else have this problem? - its very annoying

KrzysiekK had this problem a while back and described a partial workaround:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=237790

also important to read-only the log.txt too, as noted above:

You may also want to disable any virus scanners you have while working, as they scan the VST dll's as they get accessed by tracktion.

Can you elaborate? I've programmed VST, so I know what you mean, sort of, but elaborate some more.
Enabling, disabling (i.e. ABing) some plugins (e.g. Voxengo VariSaturator) causes a crash.

How is this linked to the suspend routine being called at the same time as
processreplacing (the VST SDK audio/MIDI processing routine)?
Or to be more specific, why would they be calling processreplacing and suspend at the same time?
I mean, yeah if you AB then there's a resume call, then a suspend call, but it's sequential not simultaneous. processreplacing only gets called when data is being processed ie. after the resume.
Sorry if I'm being vague, but I'm not quite sure what you think is causing the crash.

Post

The enabling/disabling crash happens, because Tracktion calls plug-in's "suspend" function together with the "processReplacing" function, from two concurrent threads simultaneously. This is an incorrect behavior.

Well to be honest I know that Triclopyr, picloram and diesel is great as a basal bark application to treat Leucaena leucocephala, but I'm less clear on what a"suspend routine" actually is. I'll try and get someone to explain better.

morelia, specialist in VST should quickly understand what I'm talking about. Explanations won't make any good to non-specialists, because it's a program bug which should be fixed, it can't be fixed from user side.

Thanks Aleksey.

Okay. so you're saying basically the interface thread which calls suspend
is not thread-safe with the rendering thread, correct?

That shouldn't be a problem if the VSTs are themselves threadsafe between the suspend and processReplacing functions but I can see how it would be a problem if they aren't.

Just trying to establish whether it's the host's responsibility to ensure safe behaviour or if this is technically allowable (VST's fault).

Hah - just attempted to contact Mackie Tech Support to send this list to them...
guess where the contact page leads?

Sort of speaks volumes, doesn't it?

its a shame nothing is going on with tracktion, just look around lately, yamaha-steinberg, presonus-studio one, roland-cakewalk, behhringer-energy-xt, apogee-apple logic, m-audio-protools. its just a shame ..

I think that you all have it wrong - employing an age old engineering technique, Mackie is simply waiting it out to see what other developers have done. Only after all the dust has settled on current DAW development, will Mackie then do a complete overhaul on Tracktion... I should think they would have sold the rights at this point if they didn't see potential for future revenue. 8)
