U-he, Elemental Audio & that crazy guy who bought them

The debacle of Elemental Audio and Roger Nichols (see here for the whole sordid history: http://www.bigbluelounge.com/forums/vie ... hp?t=29768) was a shame. I liked InspectorXL a lot and was about to buy the EQ plugins (I am trying to move away from Waves stuff).
It occurred to me that wouldn't be great if Urs stepped in and wrote some similar plugins to replace EA's - if he did they would be sure to sound great (all his stuff does), would have interesting takes on the kinds of plugins they were (that is, he always brings something new and well thought out to whatever plugins he writes), they probably wouldn't be too crazy expensive (Waves) or use iLok (which I won't use -his auth scheme seems to work well and isn't a pain in the foot) and would have a well thought out UI.
of course, he's probably got other things up his sleeve

well ... we still have kjaerhus and voxengo in this area (and i can easily say that since i have most of the old EA plugs anyway) ...
... i wonder if any other devs have their eyes on this development ... i imagine izoptope could quite easily take elements of ozone and trash and produce a (cheaper than those two plugins) line of more specialised compression / EQ / limiting / visualisation plugins if they wanted ???

i was reading the bitch-session on his forums about the changes, etc. i was about to add my $.02 but couldn't bring myself to register for the forums on his site. anyway, i read mr. nichols' reply. overall... i'm dissatisfied. i love my ea plugs and they will stay in my aresenal until they no longer work.. roger nichols has shown me he is lame with his naming of the plugs, his pricing of the plugs, and his his blatant transparency when it comes to his "desire" to provide great plugins down the road. i don't buy it (and i won't but it), i don't care what records he's produced over his long and successful career. that doesn't mean he's the right person to develop software plugins. stick to engineering music, mr. nichols... let someone else write the software.
it's like joe satriani doing solo records. he's a fine guitar player, i'm sure, but the stuff he wrote was dreadful. just stick to playing your guitar, mr. satriani... let someone else write the music.

Hi,
yeah, the EA thing is a disaster IMHO.
Well, I would love to step in and create some alternatives. However, surgical/mastering plugins are not exactly my kind of beef. Nevertheless, I'm evaluating the chance to add a FIR filter to Filterscape and there are some ideas for dynamics processing that might come close to Neodynium.
A question maybe: What makes FilterscapeQ6 worse than Equium? Is it the sound? Is it the handling? Is it the flexibility?
I'm always open to suggestions, but I can't promise anything. The whole foundation of my plugins has been extended dramatically within the last few months, due to the things that come with Zebra2. This stuff just begs to be used within rather creative plugins than in workhorses.
All I can promise is, Filterscape will be extended by something that's gonna make some people bang their heads on the keyboard. A simple concept, yet so powerful
Later,
Urs

Urs, I have no complaints with FilterscapeQ6. However, a FilterscapeQ^N -- with the snapshot and envelope follower functionality of FSQ6 and an infinite number of bands a la Eqium -- would be tres cool. (As long as I'm dreaming, what if each individual band could be one of any of Zebra's filter types? That might swing the balance back from "workhorse" to "creative." )

I just found out what happened to EA..
It's truely a disaster, I own the Firium and the Equium and use them really a lot (!). Does this mean that I have no right for future updates (VST3) ??
Also, I found out because I wanted to download a mac version of the (once) free inspector.. but Mr.Nichols doesn't offer this plugin on his website anymore.. I believe I lost my old Win version also..
Does anyone still have a copy of the Win or Mac version of the (free) Inspector???

Uhm... sorry to be such a pest, but can discussions about RND stuff go to their forum please, as long as it hasn't got to do anything with u-he?
Thanks,
Urs

hey urs, a while ago you asked for feedback comparing filterscape q6 + eqium, here goes nothing>
just restricted to topic of interface, eqium has a lot of unique features-- big eq window, numeric input, locking nodes, customizable views, modular design to add just the eqs you need, very different from other EQs that continue to look like channel strips or hardware; the menu of EQs makes it really fast to pull up the plug and start using it.
as for sound, I'll leave that to others, there are so many EQ plugs now. In general though I think part of what makes the EA plugs so successful was their unique interface approach to old problems, changing the way we think about the idea of EQ or dynamics. Well, it's like what you are doing with synthesis and Zebra2.
Hope this is in some way helpful!
