It just sucks for the software industry as a whole.
Hope someday they can put an end to it.
What's really weird about it, or what makes my head hurt thinking about it, is that pretty much any small file, be it a vst, or a patch set, or even say an mp3 (at least back in ye olden days when people stole just one song at a time) gets warez'd more than it actually sells. But then that's most of the industrialized world in a nutshell, ie = more people buy on credit than they do with money they actually have, and more people throw something (and just buy another one on credit) away rather than get it fixed.

And I don't expect any kind of 'end to it', because that's called regulation, and it's a very bad word in countries that have corporations in them. If they had to actually check the legality of something before they did it, they'd all be closed by next week at this time. And if you want to actually enforce the rules, and get them to start making sure they aren't breaking the law every minute of every day with every single thing they do to make $ off the workers and consumers, well then they just threaten to move their office (the only part of the company that's even left) to another more "business-friendly" place. One with no regulations, where there is no responsibility, and the rules/laws are cheaper to buy or ignore.

Other than that, I think I made about $0.10 per hour for my Zebra patch sets, were I to actually sit down and do the accounting. So if yer up to a dime an hour for the time spent yet, then yer 'winning' as much as I am at least ha-ha. Luckily, it's harder if not unpossible, for anyone to take away the things I learned, or the enjoyment I had along the way. And that's all you can hope for in life really. :)

Some very interesting hybrid acoustic textures + some cool sharp digital sounds as well (great for cutting through a mix)

I like the "Float" demo in particular. :)

Nice demo tunes Michael. I liked the bass riff in Float. What "new sequencer software" did you use?

Late to the party as usual... I just discovered and picked up this amazing soundbank. The demos that were posted on Soundcloud are absolutely fantastic. My Zebra and I are both really looking forward to this one! :D
Available on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

I promise to finish that demo track tomorrow Michael!

In case anyone is still wondering about this set - it's the real thing, top quality sound design for Zebra. Thematically it's not exclusive to any genre of sound but there's definitely a sort of signature - funkified stuff with vibrant, focused tones, juicy filters, and great tactile feel. I was particularly impressed by a nastiness that doesn't turn the drive knob up to eleven, it's coming from deep within Zebra. There's obsessive detailing everywhere, patches come with XY assignments and arpeggiator versions and oscillator files, all of those kinds of things. Pretty much all patches can come out clean, nasty, whatever. That kind of patch is a ton of fun to play, and that's the impression I have of the set.

Thanks. Hope your enjoying it.

Just posting this short sound demo, of the Ghost Choir xy preset from Soliton.
I think it's a pretty decent choir patch.

I've been having fun with analog synths for almost 40 years. I never use presets. But for the first time really, I can see I'll be using a soundset for analog sounds (especially for melodies / lead sounds). Michael's Soliton banks are different in two ways: they are for the best VA ever (imo the best synth of any kind ever), and, they are the best patches you can imagine. As others have said, you can tweak and morph these responsive sounds while playing in myriad ways. They are made by a player, for playing.

And another thing...Michael's a great guy! I've only known him for maybe a month or two and I feel like he's a good friend. :)

Thanks a lot for this post review Gonga.
I'm happy that you like these sounds.
I worked extremely hard on them, to the point of exhaustion at times. (3am and dozing off at the keys)
Happy Holiday's.

Thanks Michael!

Your hard work on Soliton really shows, and the fact that you are still enhancing it is way beyond the call of duty and really appreciated. Hope you have a peaceful holiday and great new year.

Cheers!

Just adding 2 mp3 demo clips, of real instrument emulations within Soliton.
Although 4 of the instrument sounds on them are from my Vision set.
Have a listen.
I think some of these are very good at emulating their respective instruments.
No external fx. My playing is kinda bad, but I'm a guitar player, and I only did them with one take, on my 25 key controller. So please excuse the poor playing.
Thanks.

Some of them sound very good.

When emulating real instruments I always thought "baahh, it's just a synth, it can't sound more real than this or that" ...Zebra always shattered those expectations as I understood more and more about how it can be put to good work. :)

It's not important if it sounds exactly like some instrument.
I wasn't trying to emulate anything, but just make a good sound.
That happens to sound close to some acoustical instrument.
If it works in a mix, and has some essence of something acoustic heard before, and gives some resemblance of something acoustic heard.
Then to the average listener, from a mixed track, they won't be able to discern any difference from synthesized or real.
It's not that I'm trying to emulate anything.
I'm simply trying to do a good sound that happens to resemble an acoustical instrument. And for that, saying it's good or bad, is only a personal and subjective opinion.
And that's okay.
But if judging whether they sound like real instruments is the criteria, then that's not what is needed.
It's whether they would work in a mix, and for the music I like and like to make, they do, or I would have done some drum sounds and sfx instead.
If it even resembles something of an acoustic nature. It's already better than another bleep, blop sound we've heard a million times...imo.

I'll have youtube videos up soon for this set.
Just to show all the different options available within it.
I really think this set is the best work I've done, even if it never got a sticky, or 20 pages of replies. It's still took a truck load of effort to accomplish it, and I believe it was worth that extra effort.
