bmrzycki wrote:I finally had a chance this weekend to sit down and play with hollo's soundset. My initial impressions are:

1. A lot of time went into these sounds
2. I can't play nearly as well as hollo does in his demos :)

I only got through the first two banks: "Ambient" and "Warm". And boy, they are exactly that. There aren't a lot of presets in each (about 10 in each category). What is there in abundance is craft and detail. Each sound made me pause and explore the sound. Easily my favorite was "Drop & After" (I think that was the name). I got lost in that sound for over and hour with the performance controls.

I'm really looking forward to my next block of time with Zebra, it'll certainly include more exploration of these beautiful sounds.

If you're looking for inspiring sounds this preset bank definitely did it for me. I'm hoping there's a Padsheaven 2 in the works!
Thank you for your nice, first two banks review Brian!

I was hoping for this kind of pause and explore feedback.

I was adressing the keyboardist players with those performance
controls: Pith Bend, Modwheel, Velocity and Aftertouch is
always there in reach. I mostly changed the Pitch Bend, to do more useful controls for pads, than pitch. (speed of animation,
attack time, filters etc..)

"2. I can't play nearly as well as hollo does in his demos :)"

Maybe i misunderstood your words and after trance_lucent
comment, i made a little homework: i was adding the preset
names to the demo 2 track, so everyone can find the right
sounds. If you load them you'll get the same sound as in the
demo track.

Then i found your second comment:

(By the way, I meant in #2 above that hollo is a very good musician. Even in my clumsy hands these sounds are amazing. They make me want to learn to play better. :) )

I'm really looking forward to your next block of time with Zebra!

Cheers, :)

One of the standout sounds for me too,
it was Drop & Aftertought! :)

I made some other demo track with
that sound playing a role,
also showing some of the drums in the soundset,
but didn't show it yet.

Maybe i should finish the track

I will upload it to soundcloud to explain the patches,
but this is better to listen, before the soundcloud compression.

Edited the main page: added HQ-Mp3 to listen.
The difference can be huge...
The Soundcloud still very useful; easy scrolling and comments
with preset names.

Just getting around to writing about these. Wow - the set has a little of everything… from the Grusin DX-Piano to 80's sounding Strings and winds.. Home run. Favorites I've tagged are: Dust in The Wind; Nice Backing D-50; OBX Warm Pad_Foreigner; Trianbelleum; Epic Bright Strings; Str Marcato Bow; Tremolo Classic-Hall Str; Eye Brasspad D-50; Ob Brass; Funk-Synkpad; Impressive Background; Church Register Organ; Digital Serenade; the aforementioned Grusin DX-Piano; Indian Flute; Klarinoog; O3oist Expression Yikes -- lots tagged in the set.. Nice job Joseph!

Thank you for supporting the soundset jdoo!

It's really great for me to know, you find that many useful or
fav sounds in it! I feel rewarded for my work. :)

Got them too finally, shouldn't have hesitated for so long, these are very nice presets!

Although the soundset is "padsheaven", there are many great sounds in the other categories too - I especially liked the brass sounds.

Finally bought the soundset, and i have to say, it's fantastic!

First, the sounds are really charismatic, they really have "character"
(some sounds remind me of some hardware synths, like the Prophet VS or specially the D50,
i suppose that this is in part due to the elaborate use of the FX-section.

Second, lots of sounds have a very interesting "architecture", providing interesting possiblities of modulation.
On the other hand, it's really fun to tweak the sounds... :-)

Thanks and belated congratulations!

I stumbled across this soundset by accident yesterday. The demo was impressive, so I purchased immediately.

Played all last night and have to say this is the best investment in a soundset I have ever made for any synth!

Beautiful work Joseph!

Sineofthetime was kindly sending this ambient/soundscape piece:

-Anyone knows what happened with the soundcloud link?
It's not showing up anymore?

Works fine for me (Firefox on Mac). Maybe it was a temporary glitch.

Edit: Or a problem with the wonky new Soundcloud style/look/disaster. I switched back to the classic mode right away.

Lovely tune, by the way. Thanks for the tip!

It's showing up just fine for me. A beautiful and wistful piece - would work well as film music.

If it were easy, anybody could do it!
