And Zebra 3 2nd....
People looking for a no sample analog drum machine should realy check out Tremor, I'm not sure how much this could be improved right now.

I used to be under the impression that all physical modeling was the same. However, I've come to learn that some developers are much better at it than others. Comparing Fxpansion's Etch to Cytomic's The Drop mp3's, I can hear a very distinct analogue squeal on the latter's plugin. Etch isn't very convincing in my opinion. I haven't tried Tremor yet, but I'll download the demo tonight.

However, I'm sure if Urs designed a drum synth with the same design as Diva/Bazille.....we'd be in for a real treat.

A drum synth that could do konnakol would be outstanding...

What do you think about Tremor? The concept is interesting, but so far I don't really click with their stuff, dunno why.

no need for that here, I'm doing my version of that just by doing some beatbox through a KP3 :D http://youtu.be/tODRwc3j5YQ

I think Tremor sounds excellent and offers something different than the usual drum synth. Bit too high on the CPU use for me...

Tremor is great, I especially like the ability to use odd meters and different pattern lengths for each track for overlapping phrases in different meters.

There are a few problems. You can't control the frequency of the engine oscillators with the keyboard like a synth - this is a bit of a show-stopper for me. In other words, a regular VA synth is better for playing a pitched sound across the keyboard, so that's a huge limitation. Maybe they didn't want it to act like a synth so it wouldn't cut into their synth sales? It appears they have no intention of changing this.

It doesn't have a quality reverb, so you pretty much have to set it up for multi output to use a quality verb. It doesn't do midi pattern drag n' drop. And there are a few other things. They have never updated it yet - at all. This worries me a bit.

Okay, I've been playing with Tremor for the past several hours and I have to say, I'm actually quite impressed. While it doesn't sound super convincing in the analogue domain, it does have a very different sound that really cuts through the mix much more than anything I can get with Spark without a serious amount of tweaking. It doesn't sound quite as good as my old Jomox Airbase, but for $150.....I'd be stupid to complain about it. The workflow is pretty fun. Overall, I'd say it sounds more convincing than Spark, and certainly has more synthesis options, but Spark is better in the groovebox dept. Having a dedicated controller to switch patterns and edit loops makes it pretty handy as well, perhaps for live work (which is what it was intended for anyway). For the studio, I'd have to say Tremor takes the cake.

You can also control Tremor (and other synths) with Spark

I have both Tremor and Spark and they are realy different animals- Tremor is (in my opinion) a VST of something like the Dave Smith Tempest. It produces something industrial, glitchy, analogy etc - it has its own sound, its not a jack of all trades (a la Spark). Try it with some of the cheap commercial sound banks, I recommend tremendous-beatz

http://patchpool.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03 ... ed-on.html

Personally I use it stand alone mainly, make loops/variations and then drop them in as Live clips. Rendering to audio saves and CPU and stops me endless tweeking (rather than making a track). I have 100's of little loopsm I have made just sat waiting to be made in to songs…In Cubase I just map to trigger stuff then record the triggers as a midi track.

All in all highly recommended IF you like the sound, but check out tremendous-beatz before deciding as most of the presets in Tremor are not very good and a little harsh.

I'm interested to know more about this. Anyone using the Spark Controller with other Drum Machine, like Tremor?

What I'd love even more than an u-he drum machine, would be a cut down drum module for sinlge drum sounds. I'm think Zebra but super streamlined with drum specific controls (oscillator with fm, comb filter, whatever). This module could then be loaded in the multitude of drum hosting programs such as Maschine, akai MPC renaissance, Ableton Live drum racks etc. in many isntances to form an amazing drum synth.

I think this is an untapped market personally. And even for people who don't have this kind of drum device, even track grouping on most daws would allow a similar setup to create a custom drum machine split over several tracks.
