Hi,

Thank you for the sanity check. This one is known and already fixed in our source tree. So wait for the next update ;-)

Alex.
Hi, Bazille is fixed, but Filterscape still has the same problem.

Made a patch in repro then i've made a second track with octave higher.
Now bitwig sound distorted when repro is actived on the project.

No id what the cause is, but because repro is not really stable it could that repro is causing problems?

Edit: 'Problem' solved. Looks like my battery of my laptop was out of power. Couple minutes later laptop was death. When powering with adaptor everything was normal. I asume there was no energy enough anymore and that made it sound distorted.

Hi,

I'm really excited about this ad! you are a professional in all your jobs!
I can not wait to hear and buy the first stable version of your synthesizers!

Thanks for porting these wonders in the GNU/Linux world!

In my experience, the linux version commercial u-he plugins are
already 'stable enough', if you maintain a suitable stable linux setup.
The linux port doesn't cost extra, the ultimate cross-platform purchase!
Zebra2 has drag-n-drop serial # to activate, probably the same
for all of them.

Your linux-native vst host also matters a lot. I mainly use
qtractor to host, and qtractor's creator has put some fine
effort into coding the vst shell support that Zebra2, Filterscape,
and Uhbiks make good use of. Linux Bitwig makes sense
for high-end users, as well as Ardour4/Mixbuss.
The new Airwave app can be used for hosting some
special vst cases, coded by U-he competitors,
sad as they may be

I have experienced that an nvidia video card using nvidia's driver,
makes a nice difference, when resizing and minimizing gui's,
and working several plugins within a cluttered desktop,
or across several desktop screens.

maudio pci soundcards are very good for linux audio,
as is the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 usb interface,
among others.

The windows version U-he collection also work well in
wine/wineasio, hosted by reaper. Airwave is also used
by a growing number of happy campers. Many issues are
avoided by refusing to upgrade your linux once it is stable and working.
Testing on linuxi installed to external drives is highly recommended.
Cheers

I am planning to build a new system for my DAW.
I am using Ardour on Debian 8 and RT-Kernel with several u-he plugins (Diva, ACE, Hive, Zebra2, ZebraHZ).
Sound Interface is Focusrite Saffire USB 6.
I am wondering what is a better choice regarding the CPU - an AMD 8 core FX processor (e.g. 8350) or Intel i5 4 core (e.g. i5-4670K). Or to put it differently.. better have more cores or faster single core performance?
Right now I have a HP laptop i5-2540M but I do experience problems with that with Diva, sometimes with ACE and with ZebraHZ and also when using IR-Reverbs (Klangfalter).

Any founded, technical opinions on that (.. and no AMD/Intel war)?

TIA, Jan

Hi,

I'm using Archlinux, with the stock kernel, a recent i7 (and fast), and bitwig as an host.
Works very well.

Regards,
Alex.

You leave HT on or off?

Post

I leave it on.

What is important is to set your cpu in performance mode and not in power save.

Are you also using the onboard graphics (HD 530)? I read somewhere DAW usage would benefit from a separate PCIe graphics card because of irq handling or something like that.

Post

Well, you're not 100% of the time showing the plugin GUI. So even with the HD 530, you'll be fine.
Then u-he plugins are using cairo-xlib, which uses XRender itself so it can take advantage of the GPU for painting.

My guess is that scalable skinable u-he plugins will benefit nicely
from using advanced graphic cards, and especially when using
several plugins at once, and perhaps on multiple desktop screens,
and or with multiple monitors, while dragging, resizing,
and mini-maximizing them for spacing in complex projects.
Anyway, you'll soon know firsthand if you need
a separate graphics card, or not.

Hi!

First: Really appreciate this Linux thread a lot. Thanks for making these plugins available. Used to run the demos but the family complained a lot about the static cracking all the time so I went ahead and purchased a few of them.

Where exactly are the favorites stored ? I like to copy the "invested time" to an other machine and the preset tree is obvious but where is the fav table stored?

Another thing
Sometimes after using pitchbend or mod wheel, the pitch stays flat and a small bump with the pitch bend restores the pitch again. I have no similar problems with other soft synths and no problem with my midi controller so I guess this is caused by a bug or by design where some presets can stay wrong in pitch due to Osc behavior. The effected U-he plugin is Zebra 2 build 4458

Post

Hi,

Thank you for the nice words.

Zebra2 presets are in the folder: $HOME/.u-he/Zebra2/Presets/

Enjoy, and say hello to your family ;-)
Alex.

Post

Hi abique

Thanks for the prompt reply.

The presets are not the problem here,my question was regarding all my tagged favorites. Where is the tagging stored?

Best regards, Anders

You have a file Favourites.db.txt there.

Code: Select all

find $HOME/.u-he/ -name Favourites.db.txt
