Saint Joe at SoundsAndGear messing around with Hive beta and an early version of 'Future Retro Beats"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMcMSi_ ... e=youtu.be

Ok, guys. The set is finished and up for sale. If you liked the "Hip Hop" and "Oldschool" folders in my new factory Hive patches, you'll love 'Future Retro Beats'. I saved what I believe to be my best work for this soundset, and I'm offering it at an intro price of $6.95 USD.

'Future Retro Beats' Product Page:
http://xenossoundworks.com/hive.html

'Future Reto Beats' contains 100+ meticulously designed patches with a strong, modernized "funky" character, and a broad range of stylistic uses. If you're looking for a collection that fits well into Hip Hop, Funk, Trap, R'n'B or Oldschool Electronica production, 'Future Retro Beats' is made for you.

Are you tired of flashy marketers who fall short on delivery once the product is in your hands? The author of this collection has worked extensively as a sound designer for Native Instruments, Cakewalk, U-He, and many other companies. His work can also be heard on popular hits by Chris Brown and other artists. You can rest assured you are getting the real deal with 'Future Retro Beats', without the heavy price tag.

The basses and subs have that phat and fuzzy feel of the oldschool, while staying true to the times here in 2015. Same goes for the leads, pads and synths. They retain that soulful nostalgia, while masterfully incorporating sound design technigues which give you that modernized feel the new blood on the scene is looking for.

'Future Retro Beats' was largely created in the spirit of sonic exploration, seeking out new sounds, while keeping it real to mainstream sensibilities. Looking to stand out among the rest? 'Future Retro Beats' will provide you with a handy arsenal of true quality sounds, ready to inject some serious mojo into your next commercial track or platinum hit.

Hi guys,

Here is a free preview of my upcoming Hive set "Future Retro Beats" to download:
https://app.box.com/s/3741307jw8v1ui47v38q7sd3gd7wlwwt

I definitely want to do soundsets with a similar neo-funk feel for other synths, such as Massive, Serum, Diva, Largo, etc, so I'm hoping this will be well-received. It's _loosely_ inspired by sounds of the late 70's/early 80's, but with a modernized twist, designed for modern pop, hip hop, latin, funky house, jazz fusion, chillout, etc. Rather than try to emulate the popular classic synths and their limitations, this set gets with the current times and takes advantage of what today's more-capable synths can do. I'm aiming for a fat and funky vibe that appeals to both the younger and older generations alike. There is a noticeable funk and hip hop influence in many of the leads, but those same sounds aren't limited to just those genres.

You're welcome :). I'm thinking of updating the demo with some more patches, but if I do that, I'll need to to make the finished product bigger. I made 21 more patches yesterday, and think the current demo doesn't quite give the full vibe of the set. I'm basically going for a hybridization in character between the "Hip Hop and Trap" and "Oldschool Sounds" folders in my Hive factory patches, but having that hybridization evident in each individual patch, instead of some patches being one way and other patches another. Also adding more uptempo leads and basses right now, which the house/techno fans would also appreciate. Those sounds are staying true to the "funky" and "warm" theme - no trancey, heavily distorted or chaotic/noisy stuff is allowed this time around.

With each patch, I'm starting out with a 70's Funk or Hip Hop vibe, then going back and adjusting them to fit well into funky house and electro swing beats, yet still keeping it real for hip hop fans. I'm drawing a lot of influence from Kool And The Gang, James Brown, Issac Hayes, early 90s Busta Rhymes, Doctor Dre, LL Cool J, Snoop Dawg, West Side Connection, etc, then modernizing those patches for today's tastes. In the vast majority of cases, the sound I create is not fully recognizable from the sound in the original track, as I'm only using those sounds as a base to expand from.

Will you do a sound-demo for this? I want to hear more tracks with Hive ^^

Post

I'm taking sound requests if you're interested. Youtube links are a major help as reference material. You'll have to let me know if you want that sound re-created as closely as possible, or if you want a 'modernized' version of it.

I will hire someone to do the demo once this set is closer to finished. Here's the strange thing: I'm only an amateur musician, so I don't trust my own MP3 demos. I know how to make industry standard patches, and can mix/master well, but I'm only a basic-level musician. That makes it very difficult for me to show off the actual quality of the soundset. I can produce decent minimal techno and hardtechno/shranz, since those styles rely more on sound/sample design and automation, but I feel I can't produce any songs worth listening to in other styles lol.

Really cool sounds. Especially like the "Grows Slowly" and the "Squiggly Slide" Very cool with the modulation.

Thank you very much.

As I don't have the MP3 demo up yet, I'm offering it for the intro price of $6.95 USD. 80+ sounds, with a very strong "funky" flavor, many of them influenced by the old school, but with that new school spice. I saved what I think is my best work for the creation of this soundset.

@hihi: Thanks, man :). I'm glad you liked those particular patches, especially as "Squiggly Slide" was one of my personal least favorites in the finished collection. Personal taste is a strange thing lol. I thought "Grows Slowly" was pretty cool, seamlessly blending the old school with the new in one patch. That was the vibe I was going for with the full collection, and I think I pulled it off. Some of the leads in the set are strong in the modern hip hop direction ("True G", "Squiggly Slide" and others), but most of them will give the same feeling the "Grows Slowly" patch has, even if they are named with clearly urban style names.

Haha, awesome Xenos! it definitely has a very vintage funky sound to it, but Hive's modern power is still bursting through. We can definitely add Hip-Hop/Trap/RnB to the list that this "EDM" synth can do :).

What honestly gets my attention the most is the quality behind the drums and percussion. This is my personal opinion, but synths that are as high-quality as they are in this day and age, especially as good as Hive, make drum-synths pretty much redundant. Those drums were fantastic and honestly my favorite part :D.

Well done!

How long will you have the Intro Price for your soundset as I have to charge PayPal first?

Thanks a lot for the input :). Really glad to hear confirmation that the set has the vibe I intended. Drums? I don't have any drums in F.R.B., so I assume you're talking about the factory patches? Once I hit 100 synth patches, we could then add some drums as included bonus content. What kind of drums would you like me to put in here? While I normally don't include drum patches in patch banks, they are among my favorite sounds to create.
BTW, I definitely hear you loud and clear about some of the drum synths out there. Pure VA synthesis for drum machines is quite dated. Nowadays, a good drum synth combines Physical Modeling, FM synthesis, and other niche synthesis elements. Image-Line Drumaxx is one of my personal favorites - very heavy in physical modeling, which gives sounds that would be impossible on Hive.

@hihu: How long do you need? I'm not particularly picky about the intro-price period, as most of my income comes from 3rd-party work. The online store is more of a creative outlet and supplemental part-time job. It's here to stay, though, and the 'to-do' list for future releases is growing faster than I have time to release them - A.N.A., a hip hop Z3ta bank, Largo, Helix, CS-80V, more Massive stuff, an EDM Hive bank, etc, etc... this is gonna be a fun year. :D

Oh sorry not that you misunderstand me.
You really deserve the money for your great work.
I really love your presets.
It's just that I charged my papal account on Sunday an then I realized how much your soundbank will cost.
I think the money should be there tomorrow. Otherwise I have to put again some money on my account to buy your soundset.
I would like to have your soundbank as soon as possible and so I would have to wait additional days.
Hope you are releasing more sounds for Hive in the future. They are really great.
Your work is much appreciated.

Thx

There are claps, cymbals, kicks and snares, etc, on the sound-demo. I may have assumed those were part of the actual soundset!

It would be swell if you could make drums though! drums that fit the vintage funky-feeling of the sound-set would naturally fit. Drums are very important so I'm curious to see how Hive performs in that area, especially in this groovy style.
