Hey! :)

I'm using Hive right now, and I could use some help in recreating a sound! since Hive has a very 90's "Future Retro" character to it, I'm hoping it's possible :)

There are a bunch of variants, but you'll probably get the idea after listening to one :P.

This is a ROMpler (and even General MIDI) type sound often referred to as 'Orchestra Hit' - for each of the patches it sounds like a single sample at various pitches. I'd be inclined to try this in your DAWs sampler, but perhaps Hive might accommodate also? That I am not too sure about...

I've got something very close to this out of Zebra, but not Hive yet.
It's a chord stab, so do check the presets first by actually playing the exact chord using various poly presets, while also checking the large amount of chord stabs already in it.

Classic early 90's techno?

Not the same however maybe worth a look in. What you're hearing is layered sounds and I am pretty sure sampled.

I know. I have a bunch of them in my 90's sample libraries. I'm kind of hoping it can be, ermm. Hive-ified, since the synth already has a very 90's character :).

I never thought of it like that! it definitely sounds like a duel-layered sound, but I never thought of it like a chord. I'll go through some built-in chords and see what I find :3.

Edit: no such luck!

Here's the Zebra patch.
It sounds very close to the sound you want. Though as stated that is a chord sample hit.
The Orchestra hit that can even be found online for free in sf2 format.
If you have the Zebra2 demo or own it. Try this sound, then try to replicate it in Hive, using this as an example.
I'll take a look myself to see what I can do in the mean time.
Download it here.

I'll give it a shot! :D

And you're right! these sounds are already freely available. I have a lot of 90's sample libraries already since I love that era, and many of them already have these particular patches.

What I'm hoping to achieve is a "modern" replication of this hit, since Hive is a modern synth that excels at these classic sounds. Plus, editing will be so much more deeper in a synth like Hive, since many of the samples that are out there have very little editing :).

Thank you so much for your efforts! ^-^

I just found one of my Hive sounds that sounds very close to what you have there.
Better to go under TREASURE TROVE folder - 1MC-WITHOUT FX- "LD PLY LOUD MC"
If you try that with different fingered chord combinations, I think it works. Give it a shot.

Inspired me to make something similar for Diva - thanks :-)

Oh my~! :D. I didn't expect this kind of reaction when I made this thread, haha!

Would you be willing to try one for Hive as well? :)

Nice patch which seems to use custom oscillator waves.
Also the phase modulation does a lot.

So, it will be difficult to recreate this one on other synths.

Osc 2 waveform:

EDIT: Zebra's spectral FX is used to create the complex waveform.

And I just discovered it in the Performer sound-set!! :D

It sounds UNBELIEVABLE!!! it sounds even better than the classic sample because it's a synth patch you can edit. Thank you! :D
