Postby Touch The Universe; Wed May 24, 2017 7:55 pm Prototype to load many .wav files and needing one knob.

Hi guys. I would like to develop a prototype to see if this idea I have is worth getting some developer attention with. Before this, I would like to put together the most basic of basic of all possible synths together without having any code skills whatsoever. If it can be done in synth edit or reaktor that is good enough. Sure enough, a simple google search yield nothings I can use. If someone can lead me to resources specific to:

1. I need to import multiple waveforms and have them all play at once at identical time values
2. Needs one knob that controls which waveform is solo while muting the others, plus a volume knob so I can hear the waves :D

In essence, the knob is cycling through the waveforms I import into into it. 0 will play the first wave and 128 will play the last waveform.

This is really simple in Reaktor. Maybe someone will whip it up for you.

That would certainly makes things easier. I will pay a little bit of money if someone can cook this up for me, if needed ;)

If it achieves the desired effect I want, would a developer be able to look at the Reaktor prototype and port it into vsti? The ultimate goal would be to turn it into a synth and not be confined inside Reaktor.

You haven't described anything that isn't already available yet. You seem to be talking about sample layers, trivial to do in any sampler. I wasn't describing a "prototype" of anything really, it's just a simple beginner's exercise.

You'll probably have better luck just talking about your idea TBH. There's a very good chance that what you have in mind isn't actually novel.

Thanks. It isn't novel but I do not know of anyway to test this idea and see if it achieves the desired results I want. If it does, I would like to use its function as part of a stand alone hybrid synth.

I know of and own many samplers but none of them I know uses a knob as a solo button which plays only the sample tied to its position and mutes the others. I need each sample to play at the same time value. For instance, if the samples were words saying, Hi, How are you? To make things simple, there are four samples each saying the same thing and playing at the same time. When I move the knob and it cycles through the samples, the phrase would flow naturally and not reset at Hi, every time. Very simple, but don't know any sampler to do this.

Combine several sample looping plug-ins with a cross-fade plug-in. All you need is a sample player with volume control and a CC processing plug-in to apply cosine windows for each sample. You can then use a host like Reaper to apply the resulting CCs to automation filtered by midi channel to up to 16 different loopers.

The real question is exactly how does the sample player work and how would the cross-fade be applied? There are an infinite number of ways to do both.

A cosine window "cross-fading selector" is a common way to mix waveforms and can be interesting although it is far less useful than a simple mixer in most cases.

What do you imagine is triggering the samples? Are you wanting the knob to trigger as well as select a sample? What do you mean by the "same time value"?

mmm
get into Flowstone to build your prototype IMO.
It will not serve as your product, because it is not 64-bit,
but here is a build to get you started->

The samples you load need to be named 1,2,3,4,5... etc.
You can specify which key the map starts on, I think by default is key 60.
The value which is -48 sets this

No samples would need triggering since all the waves would be playing already. The knob would control which sample I can hear, while muting the others. Having them all play at once is a way to sync up there times so as I cycle through the samples with the knob, they would all be at the same relative position. Image all the samples layed out in a playlist. They would all play at the same time. If you solo one of the waveforms, the rest would still be playing in the background, and if you decide to hit the solo button on a different channel/sample while the song is still running, what happens? It immediately jumps to the new sample at the same time position in the playlist.

It is easier to just show what I mean. In this case, I would need the knob to function as the action I am taking when I'm soloing these channels on a timeline.

So by the same time you mean that they are all looped and have their start points synchronized, but, you're only hearing one sample at a time which is the one selected by the knob, yes?

So, acidose's description is spot on. You're just looping all of the samples on their own track and crossfading between them.

Thanks, I will look into that, but, I am not mapping a sample for each key. In fact, one key would need to hold many waveforms. The waveform that is playing is controlled by a knob.

Hi. I read this a few times and can't really wrap my head around it, though you did bring up a good point about the cross fading between the samples. This would need to be as smooth as possible. Can you read the post I made that has the video in it? Hopefully, it makes things a bit clearer what I'm trying to achieve. Would the method you wrote above still work?

The sampling sketch from FS is purely minimal, and IMO is a good starting point.
It could be customized with a little application to task.
Let me know how you go, maybe I can help a little.

The most stable version of FS is 3081

Wow, I didn't realize you were sending me an actual dll and flowstone project to worth with :D Thanks so much!

Installing now and will see how it goes :)

edit* will i be able to load the file inside the flstudio version?
