slow response times?

first off,it's great to see some movement here, thanks jorgen.

i'm on win7 and usually sketch things up on ext1 then bounce and finish in xt2.
but this time i thought i'd start a new sketch in xt2:

i'm getting slow response times when starting a new project right clicking and takes 12 seconds to come up with the selection list.
same when right clicking on sequencer tracks to add instruments.
is this happening to everyone or could it be a win7 optimising thing i need to do?
it's too frustrating to use atm.
(these tasks are instant in xt1 btw).
hope someone has some advice.
(just checked in task manager:xt2 reports 50% cpu,xt1 01% when these simple tasks are made)

Post

50% CPU never sounds good...
How many CPUs do yo have?
Is this with newest 2.7? If so, does it do the same on your machine with 2.6?

When I'm at home, I'll see how XT 2.7 behaves on my machine with this scenario.

Post

yes 2.7
2 core,4gb ram
i don't have 2.6,but tried 2.5.4 and it's the same.

Post

Usually 50% on 2 cores means 1 core is 100% (from my experience - not academic...).
Not what it should be when displaying a context menu...
Just did a quick test at work with a copy of XT 2.7 beta 2.
No anomalies when opening context menu on sequencer tracks.

Try this:
Close energyXT.
Make copy of 'energyXT.ini' in folder where you start energyXT from.
Delete energyXT.ini from there.
Start energyXT.

Does this behavior still occur?

Post

that works!
any ideas why?
thanks for helping.:)

Hmmm, my first thought was that in the context menu on the sequencer there is the 'Recent' list of plugins. Most problems with XT2 are the result of 'bad' or at least strange behaving plugins. Thus I thought, if energyXT does - for whatever reason ever - do something with those plugins in the recent list, then this might trigger this behavior.
Clearing energyXT.ini does also mean that energyXT doesn't anymore know the recently used plugins.
But: In energyXT.ini there is also lot of other stuff remembered for energyXT to work nicely, so it is good possible, that the reason lies somewhere else.

If you have time and want to know what really is the reason, you could now again start with the original energyXT.ini and then remove sections from there. If nothing changes, put the removed section in again and remove another section and so on until energyXT behaves nicely.
E.g. I would first remove the section where energyXT stores the recently used plugins. If energyXT then would work well, then you could even check all of the plugins in there by using the same procedure to find the 'bad' plugin.

Cheers,
Patrik

thanks, tried and removed all recent plugins, songs and projects.still slow.
what should i remove next?

[recent-effects] ?

[recent-instruments]
[recent-plugins]
Not sure when and where [recent-instruments] vs. [recent-plugins] are used...

[audio] ? - You need to do new audio setup in energyXT...
[render] ?

To be honest - not really a clue, but I think those would be more suspect then e.g. [editor], [filewin], [scloud] , [...Folders] etc...

ok,i started with a new ini, then set up my folders and it's slow again,so it could be folders?
does it scan them on right-clicking the empty background?

Post

found it,it's my vstplugins folder.
too big i guess.

Post

shame,cos xt1 doesn't mind.
i didn't think it scanned it until selected, but it must be doing something?

You are sure?

I also do have a very big VST folder, with lots of free and old VST instruments and VST effects. Also beta versions and work in progress plugins and even 64 bit plugins.
For me it still looks like XT2 doesn't scan the plugins folder in any way.
:(

Post

well it's fine now i've not included my plugin folder in setup.
just drag and drop, and it's real fast now.(didn't realise you can drag and drop from anywhere, without selecting a folder)
not sure why it is affecting the response time.?

Post

just added my small vst folder and that is quick, replace with large and it is 5 secs.
actually better than 12 secs before.
so maybe other things were slowing it down too, like last plugins/audio/sample folders?

Post

unless it's my computer that is slow.?
though my vstplugins folder is 127,356 Files, 18,677 Folders, nearly 50GB.
