HI,
I would like to know if it's possible to convert a midi file in sysex file and how can i do that ?
thanks

Post

DOn't really know of any conversion program.

Easiest way is to load the midi file in your host, direct it's track output at your target machine - make sure channels are same, and syx is enabled on target - then shoot it over.

It's not for an hardware but for a softsynth......

Sysex data is just midi data that's exclusively for one system (or synth.) So if you have a midi file containing sysex you can filter out all normal midi commands and you're left with the sysex stuff. Probably MidiOx can do that filtering.

Which softsynth is this for?

It's for discovery....I found a sound bank in one website for the nordlead II

Try MidiOx, as Bert suggested. It should be able to create a syx file out of a MIDI file.

Maybe a simple rename from .mid to .syx will do the job... Tried that??

Found something: http://www.snoize.com/SysExLibrarian/
(Mac only alas, not for PC...)

and some info from another board:
FROM THE DISCOVERY MANUAL:
Page 20 Appendix B. Importing SysEx
Discovery can import sysex patch dumps from Clavia's Nord Lead 2 using
software able to record MIDI sysex data dumps.
A recommended tool for this purpose is MIDI-OX - http://www.midiox.com/.
1. Using MIDI-OX menu bar: View > SysEx.
2. SysEx window appears, then: SysEx > Receive Manual Dump
3. A small window labeled 'SysEx Receive' will appear.
4. On NordLead2, select Shift+Dump One or Shift+Dump All, it will start dump
of current patch or entire 40 patches of RAM sound bank.
5. Once finished, press done.
6. On MIDIOX SysEx view the menu again, go to 'Display Window' and select
'Save As.'
7. Select and save your file with .syx extension.
8. On Discovery editor, press right button, popup menu appears, then press
Import NL2 patch dump, and select your .syx or .ngf file (Both are MIDI
unformatted Sysex data dump).
NOTES:
Full bank patch dumps will be done into current selected layer.
This is a not reversed engineered Nord Lead 2, so it will sound different.
Performance and Percussion Kits dumps are not supported yet.
Replace step 4 (dump of NordLead) by playing the midi file yourself.
