what is the weirdest music (that uses notes, not noise etc) that you know?
But why the strange dichotomy?
surely, you pile enough notes on top of one another and you could wind up with noise?

the distinction 'weird' is not much better, it's utterly subjective.
this thread is 'weird', to me.

as jan says, this is totally subjective
im going to add stuff that i enjoy but when i play it for other people they either give me a look or even just say "whatthefuck?"

Thanks Vurt.
Both Bruce Haak and Phantom of the Paradise are awsome.
Not sure how I've managed to miss them.

I love concept pieces like this. Reed Ghazala's Requiem for a Radio is construction from the sounds of him smashing a radio, putting it through a blender and melting it. This is the second movement (the first movement is just him smashing the radio up and is a bit unlistenable even for me):

My favourite though is Glenn Branca. Not that weird in my book but very powerful. The fact that John Cage walked out of a Branca concert in outrage describing the music (or was it Glenn?) as fascistic is testament to... something. You have to go some mileage to offend someone like Cage. This was the piece:

i love jandek :hail:

michael stipe is a bit weird but rem as a musical outfit, i wouldnt say so, personally.

exactly, apart from a 'charismatic' vocalist, a pretty straight forward guitar band.

that's my point, that people find them 'weird' is interesting to me because they seem the height of normality compared to some of the stuff i listen too (I do like REM a lot btw, not belittling them or anything).

I guess some would call this weird?

I don't think it's weird but it definitely isn't what you hear in the top 40 (sadly) :hihi:
Two of my fav artists by the way :)

I am not sure I would call this weird, more like brilliant.

This is weird, not because of the clothes and the dancemoves and the crazy drumbeat section, but because it's a ganja bush the man is peeping the women from.

Now that was just cool. 8)

In 1964 this might have been considered 'slightly weird' film music.
