Well, another namm has come and gone w/o any significant thing I was interested in. My biggest hope was for spectrasonics to have something (oh, like RMX2)

For all the harware guys that got a thrill, I'm happy for you. Some guitars look nice but they are all WAY out of my price range (and good luck getting one from those companies anyways)

Ibanez stunk the joint up. Not one single offering of any significance. They've just gone to shit in the US (the used offerings are far better)

I wish behringer's cmd series was demoed a little more .. for instance, see them in action with ableton and traktor along with other programs. They were next to bitwig guys so i wouldn't have mind (no really) see them in action together!

There were too many videos of items that was not shown in action! Like .. amps! Talk about an amp for five minutes and no demo.. The bigger guys could have brought an isocab so sound wouldn't be an issue.

Tough competition with Push and Maschine. But it seems purely aimed at beatmakers where Push and Maschine aim for the entire production chain and more genres. No sampling from what i could tell.

What it does have is a analog and physical modeling engine. Personally i prefer that to "dead" samples

Aside from some very pretty guitars from a few manufacturers, this NAMM is chuck full of rubbish. Most of this repetitive, boring nonsense needs to go straight to the trash bin. Sitting around, playing with these toys, playing and using other people's sound clip and loops because you're too lazy to produce your own, pressing little pink and green rubber pads all day is basically just masturbation. As much as I hate to agree with you, I do.

NAMM had less happening this year than any other year I've been there. The SubPhatty's what the Little Phatty should have been. The MS-20's cute, but it's made out of the cheapest plastic I've ever seen. Heaven help anybody gigging with one. The Prophet 12's nice, but doesn't really bring anything new to the table- and there's those digital oscillators. I think Dave Smith would have much wiser to bring out an eight voice Poly Evolver rack, but that's just me. The Steiner shows promise, but $25k worth? Really?

As you said, there were some very cool guitars, especially from the small shops. The modular front had some cool stuff as well; Tony Rolando's prototype MakeNoise modules will end up finding a home in my modular once they're released. And, the new Mellotrons at Big City Music were a blast to play with. Besides that, not so much.

But, as always, it's the people who are the real reason to go. I finally met justin3am, buscemi, and various others I'd known on line for years but hadn't met in person. In that regard, the show was a success.
