7. I've never had a real job.

8. I just recently bought my first house.
And we engineers can be "happy" to even get 50 bucks a song for mastering or 15-20 EUR/hour of mixing (incl TAX)! And then he has the decency to use cracked software, and being filmed while doing so!

Success all good and fine - to some extend he deserves it. But such people piss me off big time, and are way too much overpayed (a DJ gig a night - 3k? No wonder you can buy a house, but not legit software!).

I'm not that much older than "him", but I have two trainings and worked at several sh*t jobs. Yet I can't afford anything other than food as of late.

The higher they gamble, the lower they eventually fall.

We musicians can be happy if a bunch of people listen to our songs for free, we won't get 15 - 20 EUR/hour or 50 bucks. +50 hours of songwriting (for ONE song) for nothing... :x

I thought avicii was some dubstep/edm 'artist' but have just realised Radio2 have been playing it alot....sounds a bit country, and very bland. Doesnt sound like something 'da kidz' would be into...

Watching him on Have I Got News. My god he's funny.
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Some bright spark thought 'lets make it a bit redneck' (even though the Europeans did it far better 20 years earlier) and it'll sell shitloads.

Which is appropriate, because it IS shit. So, so shit.

I think Avicii is working hard and actually making music he likes, and making a great living doing it. Hard to find much fault in that.
I agree, I don't like all the negative comments either and my whole family love that track he done with Romero - I could be the one. Yes, I am shocked at the mix-down but song wise I like it.

I do think he is trying to go as commercial as possible though, most do. But threads like this aren't really nice.

It seems extremely important to build up your own musical identity and character these days, in pop music.
Not sure about this. It builds up exactly the opposite - similarity, pop standard. (character?? Oh gosh...). They are not independent anymore. They do what they've been told to do (hence earning more because of the massive promotion). Artists have to make a choice, to be independent and create their unique stuff for minors (because of the lack of promotion) and not getting much money from it or make what it's been told to do, but earning more, much more...
Spot on!

You can expect some people who are passionate about music to be annoyed at this apparent "paving over" of the music scene at large.
Good god that was good! :D

If he would mix German schlager music with trance, his record label would promote it, too, just because it's from Avicii. If someone others would make the same thing, they would instantly delete the demo without responding...
He is a good example how music is going into wrong direction...Avici,Tiesto and the others produce trance only by popularizing sh@it...i don't know why people call they music "TRANCE"-maybe i'm from stone age and don't get it :D

Well, it's the same with Electro. Remember commercial Electro House. Now it's called electro! (wtf??)

Or commercial techno with tonnes of cowbell-like sounds. (That's what Richie Hawtin puts now in every soundset...)
I remember those squashed to death EH tunes ,oh lord...
Maybe that's why Magda,Troy and Marc formed up they own label "Items and Things"
Those who loves music will follow heart, those who don't-follow the money, simple as Avicis tracks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFnFl66v9Us this is simple,but pleasing,cheers

Personally I don't have super strong feelings about Avicii, other than to say I respect him for being a creator. He's done more with his music than anyone I've seen here.

Yep. I so agree with you. Good luck to the guy and I hope he makes millions more honestly.

Its so hard to crack the us market especially with edm and there he goes and works out a way to do it, hats off to him and I wish I'd thought of it.
