I like a band called F.I.R > 飞儿乐团
Write their own music/lyrics
From Taiwan. Although the music they did from 2004 to 2006 was the best.

Penny Tai > 戴佩妮
From Taiwan and did her best music from 2001 til 2006.
Her and her brother write and perform these sounds too.

Zhang Shao Han - 张韶涵
From Taiwan, and did some good tunes from 2004-2006

This girl is pretty good, and mixes a lot of the old folk music with more modern elements. Huang Ying 黄英。

There's also the ethnic minority music of farm workers, which is rare, and really has not much in way of recordings for mass media. They have a stupid mocked up version of it for pop style stuff that I don't really like. There is a movie that contains a lot of that music, and shows how the ethnic minorities in China live as well.
It's called "Huayao Xinniang" > 花腰新娘。
It has some of the best recordings of ethnic minority music in China. That isn't pop laced corn. It's real, and it's one of my favorites to hear. Unfortunately very rare, to hear it in media, besides the poppish fake kind.

Here's some other related Chinese music sites.
This ones got a lot of audio examples

Good track from southern China here, and it's the real sounds. Not that faked pop stuff.

Imo...the best modern music maker in mainland China is Sa Ding Ding > 萨顶顶
Very unique style, and old mixed with new.

These are also pretty good from Zhang Shao Han from 2004. She just produced mostly mushy love songs for 14 year old girls after that, but her early music showed promise.

Thanks, mcnoone. You save my Chinese music week! :tu:

At the moment I'm listening to an official CD from Beijing, China, "Greatest Hits from the Last Century" by China Record Corporation, and every second song is about soldiers... :hail:

Taiwan is not a part of China.

Not yet but the population consists of over 95 % Chinese people...

Nevertheless, I just want to listen to Chinese music, not to politics...

Was a bit disappointed from Penny Tai... Angela Zhang has a few nice songs with some Chinese elements but most of her songs are boring piano pop ballads... :(

Is the piano a Chinese instrument now? :help:

EDIT: The album "Aurora" by Angela Zhang is pretty good... :D

OMB (oh-my-buddha), now I felt in love head over heels... :o

A lot of this I just listened to years ago to study Chinese language.
I find a lot (all of it actually) of the piano ballad stuff boring as well.
It's soft, non aggressive music, that sells there though.
Those are aspects of Chinese culture, that cause that.
Being soft, and non aggressive (socially speaking). Is socially engrained there.
While in the US, it's quite the opposite.
More like this.

A vpn can get around that.
I also can't watch it in the US, but can work around that if needed.
