Is 80's music coming back?

I noticed there are quite a few young bands already performing it. (and nobody can make better than Americans) And I think it's really nice as long as there are "real" and "independent" bands that make music by theirself. But I think that this trend will be screwed up really soon by "big labels" pursuing for money and encouraging some "muppet" arstist like Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, Bejonce, Avicci to follow this trend (surely, there will be a huge brigade of lazy musicians making tracks for them, like 5 songs a day)
Some nice stuff I found in Youtube (love it):

Casio Social Club, College, Electric Youth, Valerie etc. doing 80's synthpop since years, i don't see a big commercial trend coming up. And that's good

I've been wondering the same myself. I've been feeling an impulse to make 80's style stuff, I think it's just in the air.
Honestly I think yes, it's already here, but I don't think it will be big.

Actually, 80's music has been "coming back" for some 15 years or so. Maybe not so much in Pop music, but certainly in Rock.
But if this is a "serious" comeback, I surely welcome it. Even the plastic/synth pop of the 80's had so much more quality and melody in it than what people call "music" nowadays. I don't think anybody's gonna remember a Lady Gaga song in 20 years from now, or something like this Will-I-Am feat. Britney Spears crap.
It's basically a question of quality and melody. Aspects that we haven't had in a long time. The artists in the 80's often had great composers writing real melodic songs for them that have become (and will remain) classics.
These days, the throw-away-mentality is reflected in the quality of modern "music".
Styles like Rap, Hip Hop, Techno, and EDM have taken us to a point where people that can't play any instrument are considered as "musicians", where people that can't hold a single note are considered as "singers", and where songs without any real melody are considered as "music".
To make it short: Let quality rule over the stuff we get to hear these days.

Well said! Exactly my thoughts. Catchy melodies that can linger all they in your head and make you smile.Skorpius wrote:Actually, 80's music has been "coming back" for some 15 years or so. Maybe not so much in Pop music, but certainly in Rock.

Classixx has been doing some interesting stuff for as long as I have been aware of him. I might be wrong about this, but I think he was kind of one of the first Soundcloud Artist success stories. I could be wrong though.
I definitely dig the track in the OP.
