While reading all kinds of info about the SSM2044 filter, which I absolutely love (used in Polysix, Mono/Poly, PPG Wave 2.2 and 2.3, Emulator, SP-1200, K3 and more.. OK that's too many examples), I found this interview of Dave Rossum from 1981 which is so remarkably relevant today in 2014 that it's funny. A very nice interview with a man who cares a lot about quality, affordability and friendship, whom all of us should thank for making many great synths and synth-related instruments possible.

Yes, Dave Rossum is an unsung hero in the world of synthesizers and samplers. It's a shame that Emu was always on the verge of financial ruin and had to eventually sell out to Creative.
This interview does a good job of telling the Emu story:

Yeah, pretty sad that Creative killed two great music companies. All they were interested in was making sound cards for consumer market. Now its pretty evident how bad that decision was - Creative has lost sales and market many consecutive years and is now in red. Gamer and consumer soundcard business is now such a small market as integrated audio has become acceptably good for all general gaming and entertainment consumption. There's hardly a point in having a separate soundcard these days. All the other stuff like wireless speakers and gaming headphones are just novelty items.
While on the other hand the home and project studio market has exploded and Creative now has nothing to cater it.
