Hi!

The EZ-EG/AG is a really helpful tool. I got mine (AG) after I sold my Roland GR-20 set which I almost never used. The EZ-AG does not make many false sounds (notes/tones) and espacially none out of nothing.

It seems that special midi files for the EZ-AG are no longer available for download from the yamaha website, though. Does anybody know if there is any other source for downloading them?

You want the midi files that make the frets light up(with built in sysex data)? I don't know anything about that, you'd probably have to make them yourself. When I had an ez guitar I just put in some regular midi files, they didn't light up the frets, but still played.

Hi!

Thanks, RunBeerRun!

Does anybody know if it would be somehow possible to delete the original (pre-installed) song files on the ezag?

How does the EZ AG compare with the YRG 1000 Gen2?

Bearing in mind Ive been playing guitar for almost 30 years.
Im looking for something to play soft and hardware and realise these dont 'play' like real guitars which doesnt bother me in the slightest as its more chord and scale familiarity Im looking to utilise.

Im more looking to learn the pros and cons of each as they seem similar in features and price

If it's possible to erase the built in songs, you'd probably need to do it with the Songfiler app. You have to sign up for a free account w/Yamaha, it's in there somewhere.

As for the ez-ag vs. the YRG, the ez-ag has a great neck and the buttons feel great, great body, it's not idiot-proof, the open string notes technically ring out forever until muted, there's only 12 frets(I think the ez-eg model has more frets),the frets when touched always put out a low velocity note, so you'd want a velocity filter midi effect in use.

I had one of the early YRG's before, it actually was idiot-proof, has a control panel of stuff you can tweak, open strings can mute when you start playing other notes, I hated the feel of the neck, and strings didn't always trigger-I think that problem was fixed on the current model, haven't played it. For the money it's good I guess.

I use the Rock Band Mustang, only because it feels the best for me.

All the Mustangs are wireless, I have the Xbox one-heard the Playstation one breaks. Bought it for $50 used. You'll find string crosstalk, search http://forums.harmonixmusic.com/ for string crosstalk, you'll find a pictured thread about the fix, all you do is lift off the part above the strings, put in paper towels, put it back on, has worked flawlessly ever since. Has 17 frets, a tapping mode(I use this all the time as I can't seem to get all the notes in otherwise), a 3.5 jack for a control change pedal(momentary or toggle only, no expression), it also has accelerometer stuff you can turn on, 2 control change things and one pitchbend.

Batteries last long, about a year for regular use. If you use the 3.5 jack for control change, it'll run out much quicker.

do a web search for mustang midi manual, it doesn't even ship new with that. It takes a combination of buttons to turn on the accelerometer.

There is only one model, and it has buttons on the fretboard and strings for the other hand. It has other buttons on the body, transpose/program change

Not true - there is actually the Squier RockBand controller with strings, shown here: http://www.amazon.com/Squier%C2%AE-Fend ... B004MF102G.

I don't think it is still available, but I have one, in mint condition, rarely used (I got hold of a Roland GI-20 on eBay shortly after buying this, and thus can use my Godin Multiac now). It works pretty well as a midi controller, but the benefit is that it is strung just like a regular guitar, you press strings on the frets and pick strings by the pickups; you play it like a regular guitar (with some adjustments in playing technique, of course, for midi control purposes). It can be used as a regular guitar, as well, but it is best to set it up as a midi controller IMHO and use a better guitar for guitar purposes. When using it as a midi controller, there is a foam piece where the neck pickup would be (you can see it in black in the photo) that rises up to "mute" the strings - this helps with the tracking.

If anyone is interested in purchasing, just PM me - I would ask $125 plus shipping. I have a lot of good feedback here, and have bought something from almost everyone :).

It's a sad day but life changes are requiring me to part with my EZ-EG. It's on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-EZ-EG-Di ... 1658688487
Hoping it goes to a good home with someone who knows what it's capable of.

I am thinking of writing a .Net application to learn to play guitar (by ear.) Does anyone know if it's possible to interact with the lights of the ez eg guitar in real time? I.e. can you send a midi signal to the guitar that will light up a fret (apart from loading loading songs onto it and playing them via the menu buttons on the guitar itself.) Cheers, Al

I've just brought a second hand EZ-AG which I'm loving! There's a small fault with it which I hope someone can help me with!?
When I plug in the external power supply, it activates the damping permanently- there's no way of letting notes ring out. When it's running on batteries it's fine and the damping works ok when you touch both plates.
i know a bit about electronics, but can't work out why the hell this is happening. I've opened up the guitar and there are two wires connected to the bridge plate. They appear to be soldered to the same terminal and there is continuity between them. Can anyone help?
Thanks.
