Which is precisely what the already mentioned Hans Werner Henze did with the first part of that Prelude in his 1973 work Tristan.

Did "serious composers" use sampling before the advent of the modern DAW? :o
Indeed they did... :hihi:
The Wagner piece in fantastic! Some operas have a segment that has no vocal and sound great. When the opera comes in I usually hit the skip button.

Henze was already on my list. This particular piece was ok but under a more relaxed listening perhaps I will like it more.

I am amazed at how knowledgeable you and others in the thread are about classical music. One more thanks to you for your suggestions.

I am sure there will more of his works that I will like.
So I will include Gavin Bryars in my "good" list.
Most of his stuff is adagio - no fast stuff for our Gavin. He does do a fair few vocal pieces and the very occasional percussion piece so just thoroughly check out the works before buying anything.

Thanks for your suggestion. The EULOGY CANTATA was interesting with an occasional segment that I liked but I prefer music without voice.

the perreur-lloyd site had some interesting music. It may take a while to get to fully appreciate it.

Berg was a great composer and broadly influential. I recall that in his memoirs Shostakovich named him along with Stravinsky and Mahler as major influences.

That said, for me Wozzeck and Lulu (which sadly had to wait for almost half a century, after Berg's sudden passing at the age of 50, for Friedrich Cerha to finish orchestrating) are my favorite works of his and, of course, they're Operas, so... :?

Though my preference is classical symphonic music both pieces by Alban Berg were very nice.

It took me a second listen to appreciate The Chamber Concerto. As for the Violin Concerto I began to appreciate it past the half mark. This is my first experience with Alban Berg and will spend more time with these two and look for more of his works.

Thanks for the suggestions.
