i think about some kind of dark music demo and wanted to see if there are pages where you can see people posting their pics/artworks for sale/on demand?

i checked out deviantart but there i found a lot of known pics from bands etc. so it seems it's not a good place for this

a long time ago I held a contest here for cover artwork. I offered the winner $100 and part of it was they do the whole design if they won. It was really fun for a lot of people and went really well.

not sure what your definition of "dark" is, but theres independent designers available.

hes pretty death metal-centric, though i suspect he (or anyone like him) will work with a concept you provide. thats what i did. i used a guy to make my logo, it was entirely my design though, i just didnt have the skill to draw it out myself. he was also pretty death-metal centric, but did a good job and didnt charge me much at all (seriously...it was super inexpensive). for everything else i find i can get it done myself.

theres a certain satisfaction to it.

have you considered rolling your own?

Interesting. I'm looking at some websites dedicated to CD/DVD Art Design.

There are some great covers out there.

Hard to believe that artists actually work as hard at their craft as musicians work at theirs.

You could design an album cover yourself but perhaps that would be like a painter with little or no experience attempting to throw a few tracks together in Fruity Loops to go with his/her artwork.

If you spend some time thinking what specific artwork or type of artwork you want, a Google search can turn up some good results. I wanted a picture that referred to the interplay of organic and digital elements in EDM and found a suitable, and inexpensive, image at CanStockPhoto by searching for "organic digital image".

If you keep on searching for that piece of wonderment you'll keep on searching and searching and searching. I experienced much of this when I was a web designer. Eventually I just started doing my own graphics.

CC creative commons stuff is free to use. Also, people on deviant art do commission artwork. You could find an artist with a stylr you like, ask them to do a cover.

I was flicking through the pictures in the Picture of the day -thread (in Off topic) and I was thinking D.H. Miltz should set up a little side business selling cover art for fellow musicians ... I don't know if he sells his stuff but I guess it couldn't hurt asking if you find something fitting from his pictures. Usually on the gloomy side of things, always with an eye for odd details.

Though I think any proper cover art needs the performer standing in a tacky pose, but you can cut and paste that in place yourself.

Deviantart was my 1st thought too. Tons of talented artists in every style on this site.
