I want to get some more of that 60's, loungey, swinging, summery jazz, like the the style Koop plays in Waltz for Koop, for instance.
Any names would be much appreciated

Good in its own right, but not really classic jazz.topaz wrote:Skeewiff
I'm looking for good old fashioned jazz with upright bass, flutes, drums played with brushes, etc.
You know, like this

Koop was really nice! Haven't heard of them before! A bit more modern than what you request
Although perhaps not exactly what you're after I'd recommend another Swedish act, Esbjörn Svenssons Trio, if you haven't heard them before. The pianist sadly died in a diving accident a few years ago. I'm happy I was at least able to see them live once.

Another swede to look up would be Monica Zetterlund. Mostly singing in Swedish but here she is with Bill Evans:

Her jazzier stuff seem a bit hard to find on the tube. Here's a pretty nice one:

If you're after more swingy nu-jazz in the style of Koop you may want to look up the Ninja tunes label. A lot of great compilations from them.
For real classics, check out Dave Brubeck. This is probably the most famous he's done:

Waltz for Koop sounds more like Stereolab than any actual 60s jazz that I have heard.
That being said, some of Russ Garcia's stuff kind of fits the bill:

...in that the arrangement style has similarities to the track you mentioned. Russ Garcia had many personalities, so much of his music might not fit the bill, but I think of him as the best practitioner of that smooth, classy, jazz tinged style of composition/orchestration. A lot of his work for Julie London had a similar vibe, only, erm, darker.

You might also want to Google George Shearing, the Swingle Singers, and the Modern Jazz Quartet. Sadly I haven't the time at present.

All very nice. Only Brubeck is close to what I'm after (I know him well) but lots of stuff there for me to explore separately. Cheers for the recommendations!mehum wrote:Koop was really nice! Haven't heard of them before! A bit more modern than what you request

It's indeed a more modern, swinging version of the stuff posted here so far that I'm after.
More like Koop I guess
