To me there is only good (the music I like) and bad music (all the rest). This might not be pc these days, but I never cared for pc...

It is what it says. Porn fake 80's instruments are simply modern porn music instruments that fake the sound used for porn music in the 80s made with e.g. Vintage organs and cheap hybrid synthesizers. This to give the porn a retro vibe.

An instrument that tries to emitate another instrument sound but fails because everyone can tell that it doesn't sound anything like it. If people were to listen which one was the true instrument and which one was the fake, then this would be the fake one.

Ah , ok - I understand.

But I get it a little as the sound of that fake instrument is untrue to the real one rather then a fake sound as such.

Like for example a fake Chanell dress is untrue or , OK, fake as a Chanell but it's true , not a fake, as a dress.

So, what I questioned, or meant, was how a sound as such can be fake.

Hm, everything I said above makes me feel a littel like a teenage philosopher... :-p

An Oberheim brass pad for instance sounds great, regardless of the fact that everyone can hear it is not real brass instruments.

I get the feeling that it is more about the music than about the instruments.

It's not just about the music. Some instruments would simply be completely misplaced in other genres than the "porn like" 80s funk-pop-breakdance etc. I have a hard time imagining a fake electric slap bass from M1 being used in a jazz-ballad on a regular basis.

I would not include an Oberheim being part of the "porn fake instruments". That's just an analog synth that happends to be able to make sounds towards brass. Else you could call all analogsynths"porn-like".

Edit: Off course you can program any analog synth to be more or less "porn likely". So it's also a question about sound design. No doubt about that. But in my mind in general it's more like:

It's more like a fake electric slap bass from M1 as stated above. Or very synthetic drums. Or the orchestra hit.
