How do you keep a banjo player from drowning in a foot of water?

Does sampling a voice making weird sounds count?

I once sampled myself making "b" sounds (regular, egressive, ingressive) and called it a "Croatian Lip Drum." Some sfz round-robin trickery… and it was about as useless as you'd imagine.

I also recorded myself burping* to a metronome, did some pitch-shifting and time-stretching, applied an amp sim set on Disintegrate, then sprinkled some reverb, and it made pretty cool monster noises.

* My only notable talent is burping at will, alas.
Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

I think the xaphoon was a missed opportunity - I bought one as I thought it was a good idea and I liked the idea of carrying one around, but I don't play it as much as I thought I would. It's great that it's a cheap, portable way of playing a single reed instrument, but it has quite a few design faults.

For a start, it introduces an unfamiliar fingering scheme - it's not boehm fingering, and it's not a six finger system - it's some odd hybrid of the two, which frankly doesn't make things any easier as every key requires learning a completely new fingering pattern. The other thing I don't like is that there is a lip on the integrated mouthpiece that I think is to stop the ligature from slipping off, even when it's been loosened - this implies that the reed should be on there permanently, as I have to completely remove the ligature to put the reed on. Not a good idea.

Still, it's an interesting instrument that has a kind of clarinet-like quality to it when played, without having to carry around a full sized clarinet.
