Wooot, huge update for real, thank you very much.

Now if someone like DavyAch could be so kind to convert the new version to SFZ, Alchemy and Dimension Pro are willing to eat it :)

I uploaded my first video using the Soundfont in its final version (I am always making slight changes and tweaks offline, but that's about it).

The video shows how this song is a rare example of a song where the synthesized MIDI version can sound better than the original.

The sound in the video is as it is, totally RAW, I didn't add a single VST or extra effect to enhance it in any way.

It was recorded with Synthfont making use of Arachno Soundfont, Musical Box and the Roland TTS-1 software synth.

It's all better explained and detailed in the description with a link to the original MIDI file I utilized.

The song is....

They're never gonna get us, by the russian girls TATU

Just seen this now....

Yes, I'll certainly do that BUT it might take me a while. I have a major painting project on the go, and my wife takes priority over you right now

I have been fiddling and tweaking the Soundfont offline as of late and since maybe DavyAch, :) if it's possible for him -whether you do or not because of personal reasons or whatever, huge THANKS anyways- is going to create a SFZ version of it some day, I decided to publish the very little changes I made so people with the SFZ version can enjoy a fully updated version of the Soundfont, as well as others who use it in the original format.

Well, I am conscious I insist on the fact that this or that is going to be the last update.

To be honest, in all likelihood this is gonna be it. I added another layer in an instrument because of the advice of a fellow mate, and small touches that took me 5 minutes, if not less. And oh yeah.... I am so happy with it.

The last little tweaks I have made are only meant to balance something that was pretty balanced and homogeneous already, and these are small changes of little issues I didn't/couldn't notice before.

This is a summary of the final modifications:

- Added a new layer for the Alto Sax. Now it has a soothing, warm sound to it, along with some vibrato. Many thanks Chasp! :)

- Tweaked one of the best (imho) instruments on the Soundfont, the Nylon Guitar, to sound more even and balanced. It needed certainly prominence compared to the rest of the presets. Now it sound as it was meant to sound.

- By adding new samples to the Synth Drums, the instrument sounded too loud, overshadowing others, without me noticing at first. This has been fixed.

- The Piccolo gained much needed prominence too. It's also one of my favourite instruments in the Soundfont and I had went a bit far with the attenuation before.

- I deleted a few samples of the Distortion Guitar, basically the high notes of the Guitar chords layer, because some notes sounded a bit strong for a high note. A most important fix, I think.

Finally, I have to admit I am very tired of working on this soundfont, but I can definitely say I am truly happy with the result.

The Tatu Youtube video attached in a previous post was recorded using this final version.

Thanks to all the people who gave suggestions, shared some feedback and used this Soundfont. A huge thanks to all those people who helped in an altruistic way with their work.

Much obliged DavyAch. Whenever you complete your SFZ version of it and share the links I will gladly promote it along with the Soundfont everywhere I can, adding your links to the "readme" of the soundfont, youtube description and forums.

I can't thank you enough for your help. See yah' DavyAch.

....and FINALLY!

Apologies for delays...PC screen dead and painting of hall, stairs and landing completed (looks nice if anyone is interested!).

Thanks for the presidential nomination, but as I didn't keep my promise to do this a week and a half ago, surely that rules me out??? I vote for Sarcyan anyway! :)

Links for the latest soundfont converted to SFZ are attached. I've pulled these into Alchemy Player, Zampler and Dimension LE to test. Testing hasn't been extensive, so please feed back any issues. Download is big!

Hello to you DavyAch and ever so thankful for your generosity and your time. Also for your kindness and your wonderful work with porting the soundfont to a different format. I don't find the words to thank you enough. You are brilliant.

I am going to add the links to your files to all my threads and the youtube video featuring the soundfont. Once again, huge thanks DavyAch.

Regarding the Soundfont, well, it's highly unlikely I will ever continue with it. If I did, my focus would be to create a General MIDI 2 setup, featuring 256 instruments, a la Roland TTS-1, a soft synth I like a lot. However, apart from the instrument generation limits of soundfonts, it would be also complicated to once again create a great, consistent, and fully compatible set of sounds, and balance the volume levels in them. It takes a lot of time and the current version is in general fine as it is, balance wise. It's a difficult thing to achieve, but as GM sound bank, in a way it serves the idea of standardization. A GM/GM2/XG soundfont would be awesome, but the XG format has some "qualities" that make them so complex to emulate.

Anyways, I am very happy with this soundfont, now that real life can intervene for a while, being over ambitious about it.... I would have a heck of a problem. Even more taking into account that General MIDI is a very tough format to get consistent sounds samples for all styles of music.

I hope you enjoy it. And don't forget to try other GM soundfonts too, if you feel like it. SGM, Arachno, Crisis, SoniVOX GS250, Merlin Symphony, Titanic, NTONIX 32MB Stereo. FluidR3, proVitamin MKII, Genevoice GM64Pro24, A380, PC51D, Realfont 2.1, WeedsGM3, etc, are all awesome.

See you all. Much obliged. :)

Important: Once you have downloaded the files, rename the first file from Musical_Box.zip.zip to Musical_Box.zip.001 or 7zip or WinRAR won't uncompress the files. Oddly enough it appears named well in the download link but once you download the first file -the rest are fine- the name of the file changes from Musical_Box.zip.001 to Musical_Box.zip.zip.

Enjoy! See yah' :harp:

Edit: Regarding sfz version

Putting the shovel on to semi-necro this thread.. :)

I just tried this in Aria Player ... and ...................

Zampler is a joke in comparison as it can hardly keep pitch information correct. Alchemy just sounds dead wrong.

But in Aria player ....... now i REALLY see how much work you have put into this....!

How naive i was to think that all sfz-players treated the samples the same way

Extranslator doesn't convert very well. I have seen how poorly it translates, and I blame the majority of this translation problem on it.
