I'm not sure if the cowbell truly is "the greatest instrument of all time". There are those who still favor the harmonium--an instrument (well, by certain definitions) which may never be sampled properly. But if indeed the cowbell is the greatest instrument of all time, then this is truly the most comprehensive cowbell library you'll find on planet Earth...for free...today. I think we can all agree on that.

Yes, this is quite possibly the first, last, and only cowbell sample library you'll ever need (or quite possibly, want). This is the real deal, gang, and while you need the free UVI player for it, the player itself is flexible and powerful and comes with an assortment of samples and loops. VI Labs did a great job in creating a surprisingly useful cowbell sample library, which they're giving away for free.

Do yourself a favor and at least listen to the first demo audio clip on the Website. I think you'll agree that what the traditional cowbell (in general) lacks in subtle nuance, it more than makes up for in sheer rock 'n roll attitude. VI Labs' "True Cowbells" have rock 'n roll attitude and nuance!

I'll admit I hadn't heard of VI Labs before this offer, and I am in no way affiliated with VI Labs, the cowbell library, or cows in general. I was as you are now, gentle reader: intrigued by what appeared to be the answer to the age-old critique: "NEEDS MORE COWBELL!".

This is a relatively hefty (298 MB) download, but you'll never want for a cowbell sample again. (And frankly, if you do, you probably need to re-think the song's arrangement.)

Good luck, and happy cowbelling!

Hmmmm....Interesting, a competitor product, Epic Cowbell was announced by Orange Tree Samples 3 years ago on the same day (April 1, 2010 -- http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=282728), yet it still hasn't come to market. Meanwhile, the "add to cart" link doesn't work on VI-Labs True Cowbells. It seems obvious that there's a lot of pent-up demand for an extensively sampled cowbell library. We just need a developer daring enough to release it.

[Edit: Since making this post I realized that the dev's site has issues with Firefox and was able to get the "Buy" button to work using Chrome. To my suprise, I discovered True Cowbell is a real cowbell library, not an April Fools' Day prank as I suspected when I wrote the above tongue-in-cheek post.]

I understand your skepticism, eDrummist, but this is a real library. I downloaded it earlier, and it's still available on their website. The "add to cart" button was a bit wonky for me too, for some reason (I think there's a short in the switch). But it eventually worked, and I went all the way through a standard ordering process--save for the payment option, of course.

All I can suggest is that you keep trying. Your persistence will be paid off with the sweet, dulcet tones of...well, a simple device designed to keep cows from wandering off unnoticed.

Does this require i-lock, like the paid UVI libraries?

no
works without iLok

Very generous....great sounding....no ilock!....but...is there a manual anywhere that will give me a little guidance re: the Settings Page?

UVI Workstation returns an error when trying to load the True Cowbells file, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Post

Should work-make sure you have latest version of UVI workstation. Older versions don't work with newer libraries.

Post

Ah okay. How does one update UVI Workstation without downloading it anew?

You mean this wasn't an april fools joke? :-o
