Salamander Piano - Kontakt 5 Yamaha C5

Not so long ago in a forum nearby Alexander HolmFeel released a Creative Commons 3 instrument called the Salamander Piano. Original Thread. I bumped into and decided to give it a go in Kontakt 5. According to the readme file, it is a Yamaha C5 sampled in minor thirds from the lowest A with 16 velocity layers and hammer noise releases chromatically sampled. It was recorded using two AKG C414s disposed in an AB position ~12cm above the strings.

A Prepared Piano - Kontakt 5

Kurt James Werner sampled a prepared piano on the CCRMA stage at Stanford and kindly shared them. I smushed them into a Kontakt 5 instrument.
Note this is a fairly lightly sampled piano in one velocity layer.

Nobody seems to like my Salamander picture and I thought I was being so clever... Sigh. I guess this explains why Native Instruments never puts animals on their keyboards.

Maybe if he didn't have knobs on his belly... or if he was more "cartoon-like" - Nobody really liked Ants until Dreamworks made ANTZ a classic...

I'm waiting for BEEZ, cause I can't stand them.
Alright I'll take out the Salamander. Here goes a 2 hour upload, why do I insist on using monoliths?
OK salamander ruthlessly slaughtered!
Now any feedback on the sound of the pianos?

Thanks (to Kurt James Werner and to you) for the prepared piano. I've got two or three decent piano libraries, but a prepared piano is something of a treat for me.

Post

Glad you enjoyed that. He did a nice job with the samples

Not trying to steal anyone's thunder or thread, but also, if you're interested, SampleTekk's Half-Off Sale puts the PMI Prepared Piano in the "PMI Orchestral Instruments" at $7.50 along with several (older) sampled instruments.... If you really want yet another sampled version of A Prepared Piano...

Post

Oh I love Sampletekk/PMI. The historic keyboards also look like lots of cheap fun if you want something other than a modern grand piano.2 harpsichords, a virginal and a fortepiano for $25 bucks. $6.25 per instrument is hard to beat! Well below the list price of a virginal!
