I was about to order the "Vintage Rock EZX", but I now see that EZD2 already includes a Vintage kit (along with a Modern kit). So I wonder if EZD2 makes the Vintage Rock EZX kind of redundant?

I am pretty sure they are separate kits. Fwiw, I would personally find them redundant; the stock "vintage" kit is already awesometparker24 wrote:I was about to order the "Vintage Rock EZX", but I now see that EZD2 already includes a Vintage kit (along with a Modern kit). Yeah, the two vintage kits are different, but imo the new one is a good deal better. That said, the midi from the old is very good. And with all this mix and matching kit parts now, you might find use for some elements of it - the sale price of EZXs from jrrshop isn't much more than the midi on its own.
On the general point of EZXs I too get a lot of mileage out of Nashville, it's very versatile. The Rock one is getting a lot of use too.

Random thought - I think this is gonna change what people want out of midi packs. The song creator is so good at deriving chorus / verse / intro / fills etc, and its is so easy to change a power hand and complexity, I find myself thinking a greater variety of grooves but with less depth and variation would be welcome, and let the program do the variations. The opposite of a Songwriter pack in other words.

Looking for a little guidance on an EZX purchase or two. I have Indie Folk, Rock! and Metal! so I've got a lot of bases covered from gentle to aggressive. Still, I wouldn't mind adding a bit more variety.
Can anyone comment on the Pop! EZX? Would it complement my current assortment?
Also, does the Nashville kit (played with sticks) sound different enough from the EZD2 modern kits to warrant its purchase? I don't anticipate getting much use out of the brushes or hand strikes, but I've liked what I've heard.
Finally, anyone have experience with the Americana EZX? Does it require a lot of tweaking, or does it possess a useable variety of rawness?
Thanks!

Huh - I don't have Pop actually but maybe I should. I tend to keep the electronic stuff out of EZD, but Pop is a strange sort of real / electronic hyrbid isn't it? Totally depends on what sort of music you do I guess.
In general, I've found the naked demos on the toontrack website pretty reliable guides for what a pack is like out of the box. What's always been harder to evaluate is the midi, but now that's changed - you can actually look at and listen to every single groove in EZD2 itself by pressing the "include web shop" button. Super useful - some packs only have literally 6 or 7 different songs but with a ton of variations, while others are a lot broader. I was taking a look yesterday and the Custom and Vintage SDX pack looks like a good midi buy, with something like 30 different songs for example.

This whole thread's really helpful
And I must say, the upgrade is really fantastic!
must...resist...ezx's....
edit: ... and I agree with comments above about midi packs - the breadth of included content might make the 6 pack of midi's a better buy than 2 ezx's

I haven't seen this at many other retailers, but Thomann in europe offer a 6 midi pack deal where you choose exactly what ones you want for 66 euros - http://www.thomann.de/gb/toontrack_drum_midi_6_pack.htm . It's a boxed product just containing serial numbers which is a bit weird, but hey.Jelly wrote:TI agree with comments above about midi packs - the breadth of included content might make the 6 pack of midi's a better buy than 2 ezx's
I was playing around again with the song creator, and I'm getting really variable results actually. The first couple of times were spectacularly good, but I've put some grooves in and it's just produced nonsense... maybe the algorithms still need a little tweaking.
