I always had a lot of clicking problems with Embertone that I haven't experienced with any other Kontakt instrument - consequently I've rarely been able to use it in tracks. They claim it is well optimized so YMMV.

Price-quality-wise, as per OP request, I would suggest a listen to that new EastWest Hollywood Solo Violin in Gold or Diamond guise.

While waiting for the first expansion and the Bohemian Cello i made a little demo with a single solo track played just via the macbook keyboard for midi input.
I added a bit of Replika XT and B2 (can´t live without them) and added a slightly randomizing velocity via Logic´s midi FX randomizer.
So here we go....https://soundcloud.com/user-9470913/boh ... iolin-solo

Virharmonic is actually pissing me off lately. They has now delayed the expansions for Bohemian twice in favour of getting Cello out which I believe will have the same marketing ploy of "get in early, get expansions later". The problem I have is that they will likely do the same stupid crap and delay the expansions for it in favour of Bohemian Viola or something like that in order to make more money quickly.

Essentially, they have brought "Early Access" from the realm of videogames into the world of VSTs. Between this and subscriptions, the professional music production market is sinking into a black hole.

Yes, most developers today never hold it´s deadlines or predicted releases.
It´s a common thing and we have to deal with it (like with buggy software releases as well).
I don´t trust a lot developers on such marketing things anymore these days. But at least i never forget.....

Edit: I just saw the new predicted release dates of the expansions and it´s also a reason i will not buy the cello....or it must be absolutly stunning awesome.
(But i don´t think it can beat Emotional Cello).
The reason i decided to buy the Bohemian Violin was the expansion plan. I know they have the right to delay it like they want but they should know it´s not the right way to please customers.
Now it feel even a bit bad to bought the violin....it sounds great but i maybe should get a full packet like Chris Hein Violin and i´m done.
We will see how it goes......

My opinion on the Bohemian Violin Solo is that for me it is a bit harsh and raspy for my needs. However is does have good bow control and not too much vibrato. I still have my eyes on Embertone for more vibrato control.

I am also looking at getting some solo strings. it's difficult comparing with the difference in ambiences and reverbs as demonstrated here:

Certainly to my ears the clear winner for realism and playable(I'm guessing) in the virhamonic bohemian. no comparison. though embertone as a company seem great, their instruments seem really good. might go that way as I don't like to buy from companies that don't allow you to sell their virtual products...as is virhamonic's policy.
would anyone care to comment on how easy embertone instruments are to program to get a realistic line?

Embertone is quite sweet indeed. Try the latest 1.5 release of their wonderful Friedlander Violin.

Post

I love the Embertone stuff generally. Their Leonid bass is amazing. But the Friedlander violin doesn't just do it for me tone-wise. In fact, I'll sell it to you for $75 if you want it.

To me, it sounds thin somehow.

I've got the Bohemian Cello, which I like, and am considering buying Bohemian violin before the price goes up.

I've got EastWest's solo cello and am reasonably happy with it. I'd consider their solo violin at the right price but I'm sick of EastWest's clunky loading/articulation management system.

If you want to spend more, you should also consider OrchestralTools First Chairs or Nocturne Violin.

More expensive, but everything I've tried from OrchestralTools has blown me away with its quality. They seem to me to be on a different level from anyone else. I've got FirstChairs and am considering the Nocturne Violin but the violins in FirstChairs are so good that I'm wondering whether I even need it.

The Orchestral Tools stuff also has a built in auto-articulation selection system, similar to the Bohemian libraries.

Of Auddict, I only have their brass library, which I have found myself not using much. I found an artefact in one of the horn samples that somehow really bothers me. And I get lots of popping/clicking when using their library generally. It may be my computer just isn't powerful enough so I can't offer a fair judgement. But I have lots of sample libraries and that's the only one this problem occurs on.

Have you looked at Vienna Solo Violin? One thing I like about Vienna are the articulation matrices in the player which have the power to crossfade between articulations which can be triggered by any controller. That allows you to transition from between articulations or increase and decrease bow pressure by transitioning through those samples which is done for every single note. The engine is quite robust and dynamic with many possibilities. The Bohemian Violin is truly an awesome choice. In fact, after reading some of the comments here and listening to some of examples online, I'll be adding that one to my library as well as the Chris Hein.

The Chris Hein Solo demo can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WcBh0rDDGw
...and the electron responded, "what wall?"

Fluffy Audio's new Simple Violin is a great sounding choice on a budget.
It's still on intro sale for $39...

All Fluffy's product are top notch, so this violin should please everyone with a slightly lower need for exact realism.

1+

Fluffy's products are really great.

Btw, Evilantal, I just realized your avatar on VI Composers' is like a mirror image of your avatar here, and vice versa, right?

I still wait (hope) for an "Emotional Violin" from Harmonic Subtones.
Seems that the first expansion from Bohemian Violin should come soon finally. On paper it sounds good but i will see....

Haha...
I can see that you'd think that.

It's actually two different shows a couple of years apart. It's because I just put the same cardboard cutout up on stage every time, press play and hang out at the bar ;)
