Developing for Kontakt Player is an expensive and lengthy proposition. It requires the purchase of licenses from Native Instruments. The deals are individually negotiated but I understand the bigger the bulk purchase of licenses the lower the per license cost. So smaller developers can find it cost prohibitive. Also these sample libraries go through a somewhat lengthy process of being approved by NI which of course causes a delay in release which some small devs can ill afford.
I was actually agreeing on the factory library. I'm hoping that they take orchestral samples from their new line, samples from their new pianos, etc.. and rebuild the factory library for version 6.

I haven't bought Kontakt, but if I do it will certainly not be for the factory content. It will be to run non-Player Kontakt libraries which fill gaps in my arsenal (accordion, brushed drums, jazz horns), and also the tons of free libraries that are out there.Foxedge wrote:Noone is paying 400 bucks for kontakt just to have the license, it's native instruments flagship sample library.
Yup, I remember one developer having Kontakt Player versions which cost a little extra, then abandoning that and not doing Player versions anymore. OTOH, it seems like larger developers have been making more libraries in the $100-200 range available for Player.bigcat1969 wrote:Developing for Kontakt Player is an expensive and lengthy proposition.

Yeah because the factory content is dated today. That's what I am talking about. But when you would buy Kontakt 6, with new insane 2016 stuff that sounds top notch and when Kontakt regain its reputation of native instruments ultimative sampler-flagship that nothing else can beat, then you would buy it also for the factory content and then it would be actually worth the money.DSmolken wrote: I haven't bought Kontakt, but if I do it will certainly not be for the factory content. Especially because it would probably contain very usable samples of accordion, brushed drums, jazz horns or similar and hundreds of other instruments.

Nope. Factory content never entered my mind when deciding whether to buy Kontakt or not.

Some new releases? Is there any news site for orchestral plugins?

Surprised there hasn't been much talk about IS Rhapsody. Fantastic value and it sounds a hell of a lot more expensive than you might think. I've actually used it over some vastly more expensive libraries at times.

The product page barely gives out anything about it. It's simply confusing.Twrogstudio wrote:Surprised there hasn't been much talk about IS Rhapsody. Whoopsie, I never remembered to correct this, as someone pointed it out in another thread. Komplete 11 Select DOES NOT INCLUDE Kontakt!Aryaroman wrote:The product page barely gives out anything about it. Anyway, I don't know if it's of use to OP anymore, but they introduced alongside Komplete 11, Select -a new budget-friendly option to get into Komplete.
Anyway, I found Komplete 10 at a bargain price and I can say that the content is well worth the price. And it wasn't even that great bargain!
Looking at the Kontakt-stuff, I suppose it's not for everyone. A clear bulk of the content is aimed at pop, funk and rock, with the 70s Scarbee, Organ-collection, Session Strings (pop/Motown), machine/rompler-collections, etc... But some of it is quite good for it's age! Just ask the VI Composers' guys (and gals). They had a thread where they shared their favorite stuff from the Factory Selection. Yes, the highly regarded media composers.
On the other hand, I had heard so much bad things about the orchestral content, that I was positively surprised! There is actually a full orchestra (Strings, Brass, Woods, Percussion) in there, a fact that doesn't turn up in conversations very often. The percussion is pretty good and the brass has strength.
But then, there is the fact that you pay for so much more beyond the Factory Content and what comes in Komplete and that's multiple gigabytes of free instruments available on the web! And yes, there is orchestral stuff (Hint: BigCat! DSmolken! PocketBlakus!).

For an all in one orchestra to start with, you can get a lot done with Albion one or Albion II Loegria. II is better for quiet softer stuff, but I find Albion one to be very versatile.

It is maybe not so good to purchase Albion as first. Short articulations from this being so sloppy and no control for tightness, you will find only longs to work OK in variety. Very slow tempo library, sluggish and drifty in pitch sometimes also. This is good for you? Maybe it is later. Not so good as first tho, no.
Symphobia I think gives most flexibility as first. Always you will use it for layering, even while using libraries of greater breadth. It is this good thing to have.
Interesting thing - this idea to purchase Albion is one for media or big soundtrack composing, yes? It is not so good alone to do this tho? I cannot understand this marketing.

The price of Kontakt is a pain in the ass. One of the most grossly overpriced pieces of musical software. Native Instruments is obviously largely abusing their archi dominant position in the sampling segment.Foxedge wrote:Yes I know, but I thought a bit further. (And even with Sennheiser it would be 300€, just to get a 99€ plugin, the crossgrade is 200€).
I don't feel good about buying Kontakt 5 that I don't need or want, just to be eligible to grab my super cheap 99 bucks orchestra. Some people wrote that Kontakt 5 sounds oudated, the demo I tried proved that and what would hurt most is, that at the moment Komplete 10 is on sale for 400 bucks. Why would I pay 200 for kontakt only if I get Komplete 10 for 200 additional euros?

If/when someone does an sfz player that handles scripting, I'm sure you'll have a point. The reality is, if you want scripting in a sample playback engine, you are looking at the same price level whether it's Kontakt, UVI Falcon or MOTU MachFive. And those big orchestral libraries absolutely depend on scripting support.lolilol1975 wrote:The price of Kontakt is a pain in the ass. One of the most grossly overpriced pieces of musical software.
