You NEED to make sure you have permission to redistribute ALL content that you share.

So please, only offer material:

1) That you explicitly have permission to redistribute (as stated in the copyright details)

OR

2) that you created yourself, without in turn violating other copyrights, e.g. sampling copyrighted songs without the copyright holders permission.

A knowledgeable KVRian also wrote this on the subject which you are asked to take into consideration.

"Actually everything is copyrighted. European copyright law means that whoever creates something (not going into detail what 'creating' means here) owns the copryright. There is no copyright free material, there is only the permission to use material. The copyright exists until 70 years after the creator's death, and can be bequested.

You cannot sell a copyright in Europe (Germany and UK anyway, I *think* its all EU though). You can only sell the right to use the copyrighted material in different ways, however the copyright always remains with the creator.

Its different in the US, where copyrights can be sold, but still the copyright to everything is either held by the creator or by the entity who bought it. So there is no copyright-free material there either.

What people mean by copyright free I suppose is actually 'copyright owner granted the right for free to use the material' (that is, you can use the stuff for free, sometimes conditions are given to that as well.. like free for private/home use and commercial use would require fee payment). Royalty free is something else again, it typically means you pay 1 fee and then can use the material without further fees like to performing rights organisations.

There also is public domain material, which has once been copyrighted material, the creator died, didn't bequest the rights, and 70 years passed. In that case copyrights enter the public domain.

So as you see.. you better look out for specific notes saying 'i made this material, and you are free to use it whichever way you want'. If you DON'T see anything like this, then you cannot consider the material to be legit."

Please, also read the KVR Extended FAQ and Rules if you have not already. The following paragraph is of particular relevance:

"Members are asked to respect the copyright of other users, sites, media, etc. Users linking to, asking for information about, or blatantly bragging about using, warez, crackz, pirated sample content, re-printing material without permission, etc. will result in your post being edited / deleted, and you may be issued with a warning and / or a ban."

Thanks!
Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.

The following was emailed to MaxSynths by an official representative of Korg in response to his query concerning copyright.
No one is allowed to sample the Factory preloaded or after-market sold sounds of our product. If a user creates a truly original sound using the synthesis engine they are free to use it as they choose, but our supplied sounds are our copy written works of art and not allowed to be sampled/resold/etc.
Anyone having similar information from official representatives of the copyright holders in question, feel free to PM me or another moderator to ask that it be included in this thread.

Thanks to Max for taking the initiative. *salute*
