Hi guys...

I just wanted to know... why is everyone so excited about a 64-bit version? I mean Zyn doesn't take up so much RAM to be restricted...

Does it work improperly (stability issues) with 64-32bit bridges available??

Also an answer to what UnderwaterSunlight asked above might be useful. It's just that it's hard to test it, bacause my main DAW is still 32bit...

Zyn maybe doesn't take up much RAM. I haven't monitored that yet.

But a 64bit version would still be valuable for me because then I can use Zyn properly in my 64bit hosts, which makes sense as I tend to include some RAM-intensive stuff in my projects alongside Zyn (I own and use Kontakt often).

Yes, I understand that... but shouldn't 64bit host be compatible with 32bit plugins?

Sometimes that works - but not with all plugins. It is hit or miss.
I also don't want to overcomplicate things with a third-party solution for bridging like Jbridge. Thus, it would be far better to have a native 64bit Zyn version.

Presenting... a small update :) (what I could manage to do in 3 days of vacation :D)

ZynAddSubFX VST v2.4.1.493beta

- Fixed some GUI issues with assigning controls (sometimes a knob would freeze if it were automated / midi assigned)

- Fixed automation routines (hopefully most of them)
- To add a knob to the list of automation parameters add it in the MIDI window with CTRL=0
- implemented beginEdit and endEdit functions
- Knob automation no longer writes indefinitely (stops when user releases mouse button)
- Host should know now when it's possible to make Zyn read automation

- Zyn now knows where it is placed: making a default folder C:\ZynAddSubFX is no longer necessary
- Zyn will always write its .cfg file in the same folder as the .dll
- At first run, it will complain it does not find it, but then will write a default cfg.
- Zyn now looks for the 'banks' folder in the same folder as the .dll
- Alternative banks folders can be assigned in the settings tab / or .cfg file. Note that relative paths are not allowed.
- The .dll and the banks folder can now stay in any folder

- Fixed a problem with the envelopes (min -40dB updated to -80dB)
- Fixed a bug (or a feature?) that sounds woudn't decay right (fixed transition from low volume sound to no sound)

Note:
* this version is *missing* the following features from the latest linux build (Version 2.4.3 codebase):
- NO spike / circle waveform
- NO midi aftertouch support
- NO midi bank select
- same old subsynth (no optimizations)

=========

erm... please don't ask me for a 64bit version... yet... this would mean porting it to VST SDK 2.4 and I'm over my head...

And as a little present, I made a patch so that ZynAddSubFX emulates a sound of the remarkable Yamaha CS-80... The one that Vangelis uses for 'The Unknown Man', or for 'Hymne'. I guess I'll be working on some other CS80 emulation sounds... I just love the signature of Vangelis.

Actually I'm pretty proud of that sound... Let me know how close you think it is... it's in the banks dir under VDX.

And yeah! Happy New Year!!
Cheers!

thanks for the latest zyn vst.

Awesome fixes, especially these old nuts:

Thanks a lot for your work, will try it all and the patch out and report back later, cheers :)

Happy new year and thanks. I am struggling to find instructions on how to compile this for Windows, or better still, where to find the executable or an install package.

Can anyone help, please?

:?

If you're looking for the standalone (non-VST) build, check out:

Success, thanks. I think this will keep me busy.

I think I do not yet understand VST, so I appreciate your help. Is there a reason why the non-VST build is not kept up-to-date? I was trying to reproduce a lesson using Unison but I seem to be lacking that feature and I wondered if it was my version.

Thanks again.

go grab vsthost (free at http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm and load the vst dll... it should work pretty well as a stand-alone).

I gave up updating the standalone exe builds because I personally didn't need them and I didn't find the time to keep them up to date. And unfortunately, in for Windows it seems nobody else is actively working on it... I've seen some nice people who may give it a try, but it's up to them.

Actually not even my VST build isn't quite 'up-to-date'... it's missing some functions, most importantly poly after-touch. But since I can't test this to well (I don't have a keyboard with Aftertouch) I used the time to fix other stuff... Unfortunately for me, the holidays are over, and I must start my usual work :D as of tomorrow :)

I wonder if I should post about the issues, not to spoil the nice feeling. :( You probably can't do anything about it, at least not so easily, nor I ask you to, just reporting what happened. I got "memory errors" a few times so far. Maybe I'm doing what I'm not supposed to. :D Like: first, I changed the "oscill size" to 256 since my "sound buffer size" is 256 samples, and it didn't like it at all - it crashed on every preset change. So when I put it back to 512 [default!] I could change the presets just fine. Then I wanted to try using Zyn as an FX unit, to try its inputs and FX, but it crashed with a memory error when I turned up the "room size" on the reverb FX. I guess I just got unlucky so far. And it is not its main purpose anyway. I just got intrigued to try using it as a multi-FX, since it should be able to do that. I was even thinking of changing the number of inputs to 8, but I think I'm going to leave them at 4 [default!] for now. :D I think Zyn's FX are rather nice and useful, but I haven't tried using it like that so far, it only occurred to me just now.

Well, browsing presets and playing them works perfectly so far. I guess editing sounds, and using it as FX could bring those memory errors/crashes back. Should I post it if it happens again? Are you interested? Also, this happened in EnergyXT 1.41. I'm about to try it in Reaper. These are the two VST hosts I use. Oh, and I use Windows XP. So all pretty "conservative"... :hihi: Except that Reaper is v4, of course.

Cheers! and Thank You a Lot for the update! It's really great that it uses it's own folder now for everything! :D Yay! That's a REALLY welcome change. Having said that, I personally don't care at all about any new features, just to make it as stable as possible as it is. ;)

Thank you again, Jackoo!

wait wait wait.... there's a catch!!!

oscil size = 512 always. it crashes with 256 and if you put 1024 you increase cpu usage with no real quality improvement. I have to change the documentation.

keep internal buffer size to 256 since that's your asio buffer size in the host.

oh.. wait... room size... darn... that's a known bug! don't touch the knob! but it should only happen to the reverb unit and only to the room size knob... it shouldn't crash on the others :D

try to compensate the room size knob with the 'time' knob... yea it sounds silly. The room size knob is a bug i didn't have time to look into...

then, if you want to use it for its FX, set the internal buffer (in settings) to the exact size of your asio buffer size.

I'm interested to know about every error you can find.

LE: how would you change the number of inputs? i don't think you can... it's only possible if you also alter the code, i think... i have to double check that. Meanwhile try using just 4 inputs, with reverb, echo, eq.... but just don't touch room size. I also use EnergyXT1.4 and it works for me :)
