I have discovered that ZynAddSubFX is capable of producing great drum sounds. Especially SUBsynth offers very interesting possibilities of modelling natural drum resonance or metallic sounds.

Some really nice sounds here. I think maybe the kick drums might benefit from being 'tuned' down somewhat though.

Wow, this is really impressive. So there IS a real drum synthesis tool available on Linux, and it sounds better than any "equivalent" I can think of right now.
