Postby lmnop; Sat Aug 01, 2009 11:18 am Lets make a List of native plugins that replace UAD...

I have 2 UAD-1 cards and most of the plugins, I love em! BUT...can you help me make a list of any native vst plugins that get as close as possible to the UAD version.

UAD Plugin ---------- Native Equivalent

UAD 4K Buss Comp - Cytomic "The Glue", Waves SSL G-Buss comp

UAD 4K Chan Strip - Waves SSL Channel

UAD 1176 - Stillwell Rocket, Softube FET, Waves CLA 1176

UAD Fairchild 670 - T-racks3 Fairchild 670, Waves Puigchild

UAD LA-2A - Waves CLA-2A, T-Racks3 Opto, Softube CL1b(not cheap)

UAD LA-3A - Waves CLA-3A,

UAD Cambridge - Sonnox Oxford EQ, too many similar eq's to list

UAD Precision Limiter- Sonnox Oxford Limiter, Voxengo Elephant, FLux Limiter

UAD Pultec - T-racks3 Pultec, Nomad Factory Pulse-tec, Waves Puigtec

UAD 1073/1081 - Waves V-Series, PSP Classic Q, Stillwell 1973

UAD 88RS - ???

UAD Plate 140 - Lexicon PCM vintage plate

UAD EMT 250 - Empty Room 250

UAD 33609 - ???

UAD VCA VU - Stillwell Major Tom

UAD Helios 69 - ???

UAD Precision De-esser - Sonnox Oxford Suppressor, Waves R-Deesser

UAD SPL Transient Designer - Sonnox Oxford Trans Mod, SPL Transiaent Designer, Schaack Audio Transient Shaper, Stillwell Transient shaper

UAD CE-1 - IK Amplitube CE-1 chorus

I am trying to decide if I need to pony up $1300 for the UAD-2 quad.
And this list could help others decide also. I will update the list in the first post as new plugins are suggested. :)

Do Stillwell Rocket and Softube FET really emulate the 1176LN better than UAD? :?

The only Native FX I can say for sure are the Amplitube Fender and Metal expansion AMPs > Nigel. The Nigel stomps are still very useful.

Not nearly, IMO.

You, and those others, could not go in whole hog and just get a UAD-2 Solo/Duo and use fewer UAD plugins and spend the rest (or less) on some of the so-called alternatives to augment them. Some of the alternatives are great when used WITH the UAD plugins rather than in place of. IMO, of course. I get lots of mileage from both UAD, T-Racks, Stillwell Vibe-EQ, and some Nomad Factory which all share some ground but also share spots in almost every project.

well, imo the softube sounds even better, aswell as it's more flexible ...

UAD Fairchild 670 - IK Fairchild 670

UAD Pultec - IK Pultec (I forget the exact name)

If you're willing to consider Waves you'd get a lot more.

-1. I didn't like the softtube. I don't care which sounds closer to the original 1176 but for me there was no doubt that the UAD plugin sounded better. Different minds, ears, etc. :)

UAD SPL Transient Designer - Sonnox Oxford Trans Mod

I know its not for everybody, but anybody with Cubase 4 or later should test the Envelope Shaper. I was ready to throw the money after SPL but in the last second i discovered this wonderfull effect :)

Perhaps you don't like the saturation that was emulated in the Softube? This is the only weakness of the plugin, imho. I'd like to be able to turn it off. As it is now, it's constantly on which means that when you want to really slam the compressor, you always get the added saturation on top (the transformer modelling).

The UA 1176LN is clean as a whistle.. no modelling of the transformers at all, which makes it a bit more suitable for certain tasks.

Cheers!

IK has proved they know how to do good modelling. Sorry, but no Waves for me. I'm waiting on a UAD API set.

Mmh... However, the Waves CLA 76 is very nice and the complete bundle with all 3 plugins (LA-2A, LA-3A, 1176 black and blue) is cheaper as the UAD plugins (if bought eg. from http://plugindiscounts.com)
