this "compressor" seems quite impressive; is it the digital version of FATSO?
anyone has experience with that, with particular reference to the master channel?

Got excited. Got depressed. Required iLok for the trial. No go.

I have a UBK Fatso and it to death. Looking forward to trying this out but I just spent about $6k on hardware signal processors, so I probably will not be buying it right away.

It's not a fatso, read thread on GS and the video is worth a watch to understand what's going on.

I received my API 2500, Radial Workhorse and two Radial DI modules yesterday. I have two JDK EQs and a Chandler Germanium Pre on the way. I've been getting more "mastering" work lately and pretty much all the money I've made has gone back into gear. Hey, at least I don't have any cash left over for drugs.
The demo is RTAS only, I think. I won't get a chance to try it out 'til I get home from work.

Yeah, I've been really lucky, all things considered. I'd rather have too much work to do than not enough.
Maybe I'll get some sleep in the new year.

I ran a drum loop through UBK-1 for a few minutes (I don't have the energy to do much else tonight) and I do like the sound of it. Kinda like if The Glue and Sonaksis TBK3/Ubercompressor had a dirty baby. I'll reserve final judgement 'til I spend more time with it.
here is a sound I liked...

cool, the processed kind of reminds me of a plate reverb, really thickens it up

You've hit what I am thinking about this plugin. Not kocking it but I do wonder if you can get the same with a simple chain as you mentioned or something like Soundtoys Decapitator, The Glue as mentioned and mpx or similar. Did you put reverb on that or again is that the plugin? I can imagine the drum solo being put through that setting in the air tonight with a long reverb tail addedjustin3am wrote:I ran a drum loop through UBK-1 for a few minutes (I don't have the energy to do much else tonight) and I do like the sound of it. In fairness I've only read positive posts about the plugin and what it does but they may be biased owners
Looking forward to the vst demo when released...kind of lost the hype over this one now and the brains kicking in. Interesting they released rtas and au over vst first. Not aware of many dev's doing that (I am sure I will stand corrcted in a matter of posts).

No reverb was used on the processed version. The only difference between the two is, on the original, UBK-1 is bypassed. I think the compression is exaggerating the room ambiance from the original recording.
Again, I'm going to wait 'til I spend more time with it to say how I feel about this plug. I don't want to contribute to the hype machine but I also don't want to judge it unfairly.
