noticed the OP was using a macbook pro; me too. I haven't had any problems with CPU at all.

Should have upgraded to latest version earlier.
I think the latest release is less CPU hungry than v1.0

The two things I love the most about Etch (aside from the sound, which is great) is the visual feedback you get when tweaking/modulating (wish Volcano2 showed this visual feedback as well) and the fact that it has an external side-chain input.
