They distort but I wouldn't recommend them as strictly warmifiers - more as all-round effects units.

And good ones at that.

on what principle does those plugin work ?

What is "analog" and/or "warm".

is it Assymetric distortion(like boss OD-1)

2 inch 24 track analog tape is what people used before DAWs(some still do for Drums apparently).

what exactly does the medium of tape do ?

do people want the tape Machine or the tape's playback sound ?

Btw im not being sarcastic or anything i just wanna know from Slate' what his products do, and did he specifically emulate a piece of hardware in real life.
If your plugin is a Synth-edit/synth-maker creation, Say So.
If not Make a Mac version of your Plugins Please.

Well, let's say that "analog warmth" is a concept, I mean a feeling about how a song sounds.

We all have our definition of it.

Mine, if you mind, is a "round" bottom end (as opposite to boxy), combined with smooth high end (as opposite to agressive).

Let's say that a round bottom end in my view, is kick/bass hyped in the 50-70 Hz area, real low and deep, whereas something boxy that really "agress" the ears, are punchy kicks with lot of low-mid frequencies (around 200-300) and almost no subs.

As for smooth highs, it refers to hi-hats and cymbals that don't "get out of the mix" like something "razor sharp" that sounds too focused in the context of the whole mix.

That's my view for frequencies, only using EQs and COMPs.

Next comes the harmonics content and non-linear stuff.

That's where the VCC+VTM combo shines ! It adds the depth, or so called "3D" to the mix. Thanks to crosstalk, saturation, low-level compression, transients shaping and so on.

This part is subtle, at least sublter than the frequencies changes/corrections. But essential to get that holy warmth :D.

Hope it makes sense !

As for a song example, what comes to mind here is this :

WARMTH

"DIGITAL" (kick and snare sound harsh)

Nebula has many options to add "warmth".
I use both digital and analog gear and the only plugin that makes digital sounds "warmer" is Nebula ..IMHO.

An electric blanket provides some nice analog warmth if you plug it in.
