Wow.

Maybe one inspired by the 140 in the future? :)

I'd love to work on an EMT140 model, but I don't think ValhallaVintageVerb is the right place for a "real plate" model. Physical plates have very distinctive dispersion characteristics (i.e. the speed of sound varies with frequency), and this takes a lot of cycles to emulate. Meanwhile, the old Lexicon and EMT250 algorithms ran on primitive processors, so these topologies are very efficient on modern processors.

If I ever created an EMT140 model, I'd want to emulate the controls as well. Reverb time and EQ - that's all you need for a plate.

I really like what I've heard in the new mode. Can't wait for the next update! :)

I hope that's a hint of things to come. I think the UAD EMT is interesting, but something about it doesn't give me that same sense of "this is a physical object" that I hear when listening to recordings of real plates. Meanwhile, Verbtone actually does give me that vibe, but the thing is essentially non-functional at low latencies.

The VST algorithmic reverb market has gone from being abysmal to excellent within the last few years (with the last 60 or so days really seeing the quality jump). I still think there's room for 1) a great plate, 2) a great spring, 3) something that can do physical spaces as well as (or better than) good IR's.

After demoing it for a few days, I finally bought ValhallaVintageVerb.

Well, wow..such a stellar reverb plugin. I A/B-ed VeeThree extensively against Lexicon PCM Native, 480 and new NI reverbs. It's amazing how close can it sound to these other reverbs. "Color" mode is great. I was afraid that it's going to be limited to that vintage sound, but "now" mode is awesome - modern and clean, ideal for acoustic instruments, great for adding the tail on top of orchestral mockups I'm mostly doing. I made some 480 and PCM-ish presets while A/B-ing (combination of matching preset parameters and doing it by ear)..it really can sound astoundingly close to Lex reverbs. One thing I noticed when I compared it to NI reverbs is that VVV tails sound a bit louder (2-3 dB?), but after getting used to it, it was easy to match the sound between the two.

Phenomenal work, Sean! Can't wait for your next creation. Image

No Sean! Stop making things. We can't handle all these plugs.

VVV is the best one so far, I think. Now, if you do VintageDelay...... 8)
