This looks AWESOME!!! Love the video. Dl'd and look forward to screwing-around with it over the weekend.

Thanks man! 8)

[aside] maybe it would be "noticed" more in "Hosts". [2c]

Dear KVR members, I'll rewrite a more clear description soon, and record a more clear video (in a bit more tutorial-style) too. I'll need to do some website updating first. Don't panic. :)

Btw, does anyone know of a good (preferably free or at least very cheap) tool to add text-overs and such to videos? Virtual Dub is great for basic processing, but not sure how to get it to do changing overlays in a straight-forward way. I could use YouTube annotations, but would really rather prefer burning that stuff to the video directly...

Hey looks cool.. especially:
Plugin Adapter technology - can load and use VirtualDub filters, [...]
You see... Virtual Dub has ... a HLSL filter (which is SUPER easy to use) which means it's really REALLY simple to write some cool effects for Virtual Dub. :D

edit: shows a black rectangle and no audio, even if it detects my files just fine? Does this not deal properly with DirectShow codecs, or am I missing something?

edit2: apparently it just doesn't like x264 or something.. nor does it want to playback any audio whatsoever (not even plain WAV files)..

Blah, I'll just use youtube annotations for now, so I can get something better up fast...

Ok, hopefully the completely rewritten (shorter, more coherent) description, and the completely redone (this time in a more informative style, with the annotations) video will make things more clear.

Please also make it clear what is doing what. I don't use your DAW, and while I can distinguish the VSTis from your arp / step sequencer, what is that thing in the top left had corner of your first video -- it looks like another step sequencer? Also, make it clear when you are pressing a keyboard key or something else which isn't visible on the screen.

Please note that I'm only trying to offer constructive comments, not to nitpick. From the video and the others' comments it's clear you've created something special; clarifying how to use it could only make it more successful.

By the way, there is a well-regarded desktop video making program called Blueberry. The cheapest version which permits call-out boxes etc I think is £59 though. They might have a free trial, dunno.

Good luck!

I tried to describe everything that isn't obvious on the Youtube annotations, but if there's something missing, then feel free to ask.

I'll try my best to try to improve the quality of such videos in the future, but I'm still somewhat new to the technical aspects of doing it all, and I really don't want to spend a huge amount of time on it right now, because.. well.. let's just say I have quite a bit of development going on as well, which I would like to finish as soon as possible.

After all, this one is one of those "fun projects" in case someone else finds them of some use..

Oh right. That's.. FL Studio's built-in step-sequencer. If you have drums or other samples there, you could trigger them from that (instead of piano-roll).

I guess I should use more conventional host in the future, since I guess FL isn't the most "standard" as far as the interface goes. Sorry about that.
Please note that I'm only trying to offer constructive comments, not to nitpick.
Well, thanks for the tips.. although honestly the "first video" was actually somewhat of a "let's record something for fun" and then I just got that random idea that "oh well, what the heck, let's post it together with the plugin" instead of actually planning a sensible descriptive video. :)

Well, it certainly sounded cool!

mystran, is it possible to copy/paste (duplicate?) patterns somehow?

Post

Actually.. you could save a preset (assuming your host allows that), then load it into a separate preset slot.. but really that is a rather "not easy" to do, and an integrated copy-paste was on the TODO list, but somehow got forgotten, as.. I'm more into randomization myself.

But now that you mentioned, I'll make sure copy/paste makes it to the next version.

edit: will probably also make it use a "shared clipboard" with instances, so you can copy from one arp to another easily..

Post

Just watched the new video and this actually looks pretty great! I'll definitely be taking this for a spin. Thank you.

Post

thanks. maybe you can do "copy/paste" as a plain text matrix 8x32. i mean something like this.

Code: Select all

0000000000000000000000000000000
0000000000000000000000000000000
0000000000000000000000000000000
0000010001000000100000200200000
0000000000000000000000000200000
0000200001000000000100000000000
0001000000000000200000000200000
1000100010001001000010001000100
0 - empty step, 1 - short note, 2 - with tie
could be useful if someone wants to save patterns to a text file and import
afterwards.

I'll think about.. but I'll do an "internal" copy-paste first, since it's significantly less work.

Post

Also if anyone wonders why I'm not doing "voice overs" for the videos.. it's because I'm not a native speaker, and my articulation is "known to be less than ideal" so I figured it's much easier for everyone if I just paste some text overs.

Post

0.2.0:

added internal clipboard for pattern copy/paste (found in the "edits" menu).. it's shared by several instances in the same host, but only survives as long as the DLL stays loaded (depends on host whether the DLL is unloaded when the last instance is removed).

I'll integrate it properly with the system clipboard at a later point.. I just don't have the code to do it properly right now, and I felt having "at least something" right now is better than nothing..

[also sorry about the confusing short-cut keys in the menu.. might have to rethink those at later point]
