Most dirt pedals are just variations on these classics.
I have three of those and don't particularly like them, particularly for recording without a tube amp. I'm going to try a Wampler Triple Wreck next, and then I'm going to give up and buy a Mesa/Boogie rectifier and a loadbox, or maybe the rectifier preamp.

For the money-is-no-obstacle options, look up Ola Englund's excellent gear-hawking youtube videos. He includes the signal chain for the sounds he gets.

Since when did the SimulAnalog become payware?! "The license cost for the full suite is €79 and you can pay it through the Paypal link below." Doesn't it come free with CM Mag?

Where are you seeing that? It's still available for free on their website: http://www.simulanalog.org/

Like a lot of us I find ITB amp stuff to be less than satisfying. Surprisingly though, these plugs from the Borgz are voiced very well for guitar. I was actually surprised as I don't like most plugin effects on electric guitar or mono synths. Overpriced though, which is kind of the Yamaha modeling problem. They seem to be charging for the modeling instead of the value of the plug. Anyhow, these do work very well on electric guitar and mono synths ITB.
